Another example of how elections have consequences. What this anti gun administration can't get through the general assembly they will try to get done through the back door.
No doubt these states will retaliate and revoke our permit reciprocity.
Can someone tell me how many crimes and/or murders have been committed by out of state CHL/CHP holders??
For that matter, how many VA CHP holders have been found guilty of a violent crime?

Holy crap. What a big FU to the people of VA and all citizens of the US. I have to lose my right to defend myself in most of the country because of these two idiots that don't belong here!!!
Not only do we need to raise hell in Mcaweful's office, we need to push the VA Congress to draft and pass a bill into law establishing recognition of all out of state licenses.
The entire country is moving forward with pro 2A laws while this low life carpet bagger takes us back decades, stripping freedom from the citizens.
This is beyond ridiculous. I am tired of these SOBs pushing their agenda through back doors. Why can't the house just say NO! I frequent a few of the states listed. If they in-turn revoke VA permits I'll be even more pissed.
I cannot begin to describe how angry I am. Is there any way to punish these guys and to recind what they have done!?! I am beyond angry I am incensed. I am furious. I am so angry I could chew nails and if the governor was on fire in front of me and I could spit and put the flames out I would swallow!!!
BTW the reason I am scarce is that I cannot access this site on my phone. I try and try but I cant get it accept my password and username. I am only on the computer proper when I make time. That is very limited.

What prevents a person from out of state from open carrying here in Virginia?
Also, is he planning to revoke all the non-resident VA CHPs already issued?
Does the VASP do THAT good a job vetting non-resident applications?

Can the AG even do this. I don't think he has the authority to do this.
Isn't his position to issue opinions and decide what the state will prosecute and what it won't. He does not make law or policy.

This is why it is so important for us to interact with our representatives, especially on the VCDL's annual Lobby Day event. You can find more details in our VCDL VA-ALERT section of the forum.

None of that matters, the anti-gunners have cracked the code on gun control. They know if they can't get their laws though the legislature they will look at every conceivable technicality to exploit without passing a law.
I agree, a recall election in Virginia would be a tough one. That doesn't mean that we can't put pressure on the General Assembly and make them want to distance themselves for McAwful and Bloomberg.

Unfortunately, yes... and its completely legal and by the books.
"§ 18.2-308.014. Reciprocity." specifically says that we recolonize permits "issued by another state..." if "...the requirements and qualifications of that state's law... prevent possession of a permit... by persons who would be denied a permit in the Commonwealth".
Also, "The Superintendent of State Police shall (a) in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General determine whether states meet the requirements".
The reciprocity agreements we have in place have been nullified because laws in VA have changed. The agreements used to be valid, but are no longer. What we really need is to have § 18.2-308.014 repealed or replaced to state that "A valid concealed handgun or concealed weapon permit or license issued by another state shall authorize the holder of such permit or license who is at least 21 years of age to carry a concealed handgun in the Commonwealth." Period... that is all it needs to say. Well, unless they want to go Constitutional Carry, with no permits needed to CC. That will never happen under this Administration.
Just got this in my email from Scott Lingamfelter. Figured I'd share...
Dear Friends,
I wanted to quickly update you on yet another assault on your firearm rights, this time by Attorney General Mark Herring. Please read the press release below and be assured that I will be standing strong in support of the 2nd Amendment and law-abiding Virginians.

House Republicans criticize Attorney General Herring's unilateral actions on concealed carry permits
RICHMOND, VA - Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring unilaterally ended concealed carry reciprocity with 25 states Tuesday, which could effectively deny law-abiding Virginia citizens the right to carry a concealed firearm in those states. Republicans in the Virginia House of Delegates criticized the actions of Attorney General Herring, who repeatedly said he would take politics out of the Attorney General's office.
"The House of Delegates will immediately begin a careful review of the Attorney General's findings," said Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford). "Unfortunately, I have little doubt as to his true motivations. Despite promising to take politics out of the Attorney General's office, Mark Herring consistently seeks to interpret and apply the law of the Commonwealth through the lens of his own personal, political opinions. He is damaging the integrity of the office he holds."
"This is another Washington-style overreach from a nakedly partisan Attorney General," said Delegate Rob Bell (R-Albemarle). "The Attorney General's job is to faithfully interpret and enforce the law of the Commonwealth. Virginians who have concealed carry permits may lose the ability to protect themselves when traveling in 25 states. Instead of doing the job he was elected to do, Mark Herring continues to put the political goals of his liberal supporters ahead of sound legal judgement."
Speaking about today's announcement, Deputy Majority Leader Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) said, "Attorney General Herring is endangering the lives of law-abiding Virginians as they travel for work, vacation or to visit their families. Virginia's law on concealed carry reciprocity was created in 1997, when Democrats controlled both houses of the state legislature. This law gives State Police the discretion to determine the states with which Virginia should have reciprocity agreements based on consultation with the Attorney General's office. There is no doubt in my mind, however, that the consultation provided by the Attorney General in this matter is based purely on his partisan, political goal of denying law-abiding citizens the right to protect and defend themselves."
"People who lawfully carry a concealed firearm in Virginia want the confidence that when they travel to another state, that state recognizes the rights of Virginia citizens to protect themselves. The Attorney General's unilateral action likely means that many of the 25 states involved in today's announcement will no longer recognize the legal rights of Virginia citizens," said Delegate L. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Prince William), Chairman of the House Committee on Militia, Police & Public Safety. "If the Attorney General was truly interested in safety and security, he would have sat down with these states and resolved any potential issues instead of pulling the rug from under the feet of law-abiding Virginia citizens."

Our state representatives (and senators) do a good job every year of introducing pro-gun bills, and I'm sure they will at the next legislative session, but with McAuliffe as governor, they will be DOA unless they are veto-proof.
