Question on TMac's EO # 50

First, if this contravenes existing statues, then it's void anyway, I would think. Then there's that wrinkle about the difference between rules and policies (that came up when some state institutions attempted to ban firearms from their premises - I forget exactly which was what), and I guess also whether a gubernatorial EO constitutes the same as a policy (or whatever the terminology is)

Second, even if TMac can do what he purports to have done, the next question is its scope. The phrase "in state buildings used by the Virginia executive branch" is probably intentionally ambiguously broad, I'd guess. Might be interpreted to mean any building used (as in by just walking through, TMac would argue) by members of the Va. executive branch. Effective by its terms, I'd argue (if at all), just in buildings dedicated to the use of the executive branch. I'd hazard a guess that means open carry is not effected at the GA building and therefore won't interfere with activities on VCDL's legislative day. (although that call obviously must be made by the VCDL itself) But what about walking across the capitol grounds on the way to the GA building? Will some folks be intimidated or confused (or even intentionally misinformed) and therefore not exercise their Second Amendment rights?

I've been out of town, but I haven't seen a statement from VCDL on this yet. Did I just miss it?

Good questions. I'm interested in that, myself. Not that I go to executive buildings; it was the mid-90's last time I had occasion to go into any higher level government buildings.

But, it would still be good to know, just for general knowledge.

I've been out of town, but I haven't seen a statement from VCDL on this yet. Did I just miss it?

The ABC store by me is now posted with the infamous red circle and slash. Under it says in accordance with EO by Terry JackWadd CC and OC is prohibited on these premises.

Mad. Not that I'm in there daily but it still irritates me. It also irritates me we have no choice in the matter. We cannot go elsewhere because the state controls all booze sales.

Sounds like we need to review the State Constitution. Seeing as in the same people who wrote the federal Constitution AND the Second Amendment also wrote the Va state Constitution, I'm guessing there may be a provision that may work in our favor on this subject.

Talking with a fellow carrier at work this morning and he was saying that rest stops are also now supposedly posted for all of us traveling this holiday season.

Used to be, muggings were popular in rest areas. I wonder if they will be again.

If you think about it, sh!thouses and liquor stores, in addition to being operated by state agencies and therefore being part of the executive branch, are also quite appropriate venues for TMac to operate in.
