Missouri Sheriff drops cost of CCW license

Post by AlanM »

There are more and more stories being published about top cops recommending law abiding citizens arm themselves, this one I find really refreshing.

Sheriff discounts CCW permits
Monday, December 7, 2015 4:32 pm | Updated: 4:40 pm, Mon Dec 7, 2015.

Laclede County Sheriff Wayne Merritt has cut the price of a concealed carry weapons permit nearly in half so more people can protect themselves against terrorists and mass shooters.
“I just think people having CCWs — you don’t know whether they’re armed or not — and you’re a little more reluctant to go in and shoot a place up or rob people,” Merritt said. “I think people have the right, if they want to have a concealed firearm and are law-abiding citizens that they have a right to carry a concealed weapon.”

Starting Wednesday, the price for a new CCW license will drop from $100 to $65.

Four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo - use in that order.
If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.

It all depends upon how the state in question set up the fee schedule.

It might be possible for this to occur in Ohio since the state law is such that a fixed amount of each license fee goes to the state to pay for background check processing and the local sheriff can, and does, charge up to a given limit for his own expenses. He doesn't have to charge the limit if he doesn't need to.

In many counties CHL licensing is a cash cow since an Ohio resident can get their license in their county of residence or any adjoining county, so low population counties next to urban counties get a lot of business from their neighbor.
