Cathy Lanier Is Highly Confused About Concealed Carry

Post by 2k05gt »

D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier is urging that civilians confronted by an active shooter in some cases try to stop the gunman before law enforcement authorities arrive, saying quick action could save lives.

I find this comment confusing since it's extremely difficult to carry or even own a gun in Washington DC.

But I think since the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001 changed the narrative of hijacking and hostage taking,
in the past if your plane was hijacked you sit there and be quiet and enjoy your trip to Cuba, no one ever thought a plane
would be used as a bomb. So when the passengers took matters into their own hands that day over Pennsylvania that changed
everything. The Paris Hostage killings also have changed that situation, would you rather die quivering in a corner or trying to
takeout a terrorist? I say I would rather die trying to do something instead of nothing, armed or not. So maybe thats what the DC
Police Chief was saying.

They seem to think every attacker is the smallest guy and the real victims can kick-their-azz. So hand-to-hand is the answer. You don't need a gun.

And isn't this a loaded statement - keyword 'register'...
“Law-abiding citizens that register firearms, that follow the rules, are not our worry,” she said. “Our worry really is, how do we maintain the level of security in the nation’s capital that we’re required to maintain 24 hours a day in the areas that we’re required to maintain that security?”
A Concealed Weapon Permit is nothing more than a permit to allow a LAC to wear a jacket.

Prior to Home Rule the Federal Government had no such restrictions for the "protection of the Nation's Capitol". As soon as D.C. achieved that lofty aspiration, they banned firearms.
By the way, there are plenty of other police forces charged with the safety of our Government and National treasures.

The Chief is so full of crap, that's why she so heavily restricts issuing of permits.

Technically, DC is federal property, which means we have to overcome federal rules. The fact that people live there and 10's of millions visit regularly seem irrelevant to the law makers. They are looking at it as a military base and they are securing all the politicians.

What the need to realize is the average good guy with a gun will make that job easier. No, we won't have a bunch of Six Gun super stars running around saving the world. Just the fact that bad guys knowing everyone could potentially be armed would make most think twice before doing anything stupid.

Here's another thing... Maybe if our elected officials stop trying to enslave the people and just do the job they were elected to do, maybe they wouldn't be so scared and need all that security.

Actually, technically while much of DC is federal property, the entire district is NOT.
Congress however, even since the imposition of 'home rule', meddles incessantly with the operation of the District government and even to some extent Northern Virginia (don't get me started on the airports).
