Interesting (if true) data about the largest industries in every state.
Virginia's Largest industry: Food and beverage and tobacco products manufacturing.
Who'd a thunk it?

What makes that a single industry - agriculture? If so, I'll believe it.
My filters wouldn't allow the graphic to load. Did the survey exclude government? Because I suspect that government may be the state's real biggest industry.

"Industry" presupposes the production of something real, tangible and of value...FiremanBob wrote:Because I suspect that government may be the state's real biggest industry.
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

Re: Virginia's top industry
Interesting also that Va was the only state out of all that listed food, beverage, and tobacco.
and:
"Real estate is by far the largest industry in the country and the largest contributor to the economy in most states. But since housing is a universal need irrespective of geography, it fails to illuminate regional economic differences. Apart from real estate, economic value is created in a variety of other ways state by state. In order to capture the unique economic features of each state, we did not consider real estate in our examination of industries by state. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the largest industry in each state by GDP contribution."
So I assume that govt. was not included, as govt. produces nothing.

Several States list service industries, most notably medical services. Supposedly, government is, also, a service.
