I'm one of the lucky ones that can shoot at home(in west end Henrico ) If you hear gunshots(in the distance) outside of Greentop....it may be me
I don't shoot at home this time of year (well some) so I'm not disturbing the deer movement

Come on down here DragonFly. If I was closer to all of you all I would have you over in a heartbeat. I also drop crows out of the yard with my 17 all the time too. Neighbor used to pay me $5 per crow that I would drop. I don't know if he ate them or what. Old weird dude too, has since moved, there goes my easy money.

Mushu - didja ever run across Moccasin's OP from Mar 23 2009? click on the AK vs AR link in his post and you will be enlightened as to your difficulties with the Nagant!MuShuGordon wrote:At what range? I'm working up a catsneeze for my Hornet that involves a primer and a .22 HP air rifle pellet... it's verry shneeky...ksanftleben wrote:I do, but only with my Hammerli RWS 850 .22 caliber air rifle that has a taped-up Umarex compensator. I did run across the link, however, I was shooting the 270, not the Nagant. The Nagant is one heck of an accurate rifle for what it is. My Mossberg shoots REALLY well too, with Remington's, but HATES the Federal's. I just thought that I would shoot the remaining 11 rounds for kicks though.
Re: Backyard shooting...
My bad... you did say 270, my mind was still on the steel case posts from earlier today. 'S getting late -

That can be a dangerous assumption. I know because I learned that the hard way.MuShuGordon wrote:...The trees are about 100 yards thick and there is NO way these 270 bullets can go through it....

I remember being told of something like that happening in Spotsylvania in the '70s.Hephaestus wrote:That can be a dangerous assumption. I know because I learned that the hard way.MuShuGordon wrote:...The trees are about 100 yards thick and there is NO way these 270 bullets can go through it....

Well, also the guy was about 500 yards to the diagonal from where I was shooting. And it was all T's land, I was shooting before he got out there, and he is supposed to come to the house to "check in" everytime he goes out there now. Which, he didn't do.Vahunter wrote:+1Hephaestus wrote:That can be a dangerous assumption. You said in your OP "...the neighbor decides to take his place in his tree stand about 300 yards to the left of where I am shooting..."MuShuGordon wrote:

Was it 300 or 500 or 200?
A .270 bullet is light and leaves the muzzle going pretty fast. It's amazing how they zig, zag, and bounce around as they travel through 100 yards of trees. They sometimes might take off in a new direction and travel 300, 500, or 200 yards before changing their mind again.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Backyard shooting...
Given my location and poximity of the neighbors - about the only thing I can shoot in my back yard is airsoft to keep the tree-rats & grackels off of the bird feeders. One early morning found a doe licking the lowest feeder trying to get seed out. I hit her 8 times with the darn plastic bb's She didn't budge until I got the wrist-rocket came out and thumped her in the backside pretty good. I do have a fairly quiet Gamo springer pellet rifle that's has fixed several coons tearing up the feeders. Need to find something even quieter as I peppered several does/yearlings with a paintball marker with leftover paint so we had technicolored deer running around the neighborhood. Glad I didn't use red since one of the gals across the way complained about 'gunshots' and called the sherrifs office to report "hunters in the neighboring park". Same speckled deer were back the next night munching on the landscaping

Re: Backyard shooting...
300 yards to the left of me was approximately 500 yards diagonal of where my bullets were being shot into. My apologies for being confusing or myself for being confused. I was just saying that the gun went to his little hut while I was shooting and I had no clue he was there. As soon as I learned he was back there I discontinued all firearm use immediately.

Re: Backyard shooting...
So I had loudoun counties finest out to my place on Saturday to inquire about "someone " shooting...well that someone was me...
and i am standing in the road talking to a nieghboor when he slid up in his cruiser...
Afternoon Gents, Anyone been shooting? ... Yes sir
You? ... Yes Sir
You live here? ...Yes sir
what were you shooting? ... Rifles, pistols, and shotguns...
so you got all the bases covered? ... Yes sir!
where where you shooting? 51 yards from right here
51 Yards? ... Yes Sir, we used a laser rangefinder for the distance...
Laser, huh? Yes sir...
Nice work...! thank you sir
So, You were hunting? ... No Sir, I would have to be 100 yards from the road to shoot at any game, just target shooting...
OK,..sounds like you know what the deal is... please practice gun saftey at all times and check beyond your target and watch the angle
up the mountain... Yes sir!
He then said " i don't know who called, but they thought you were close to the road, and i was asked to come by..."
I said " thats no problem, I do know who called... it is the Leesburg police man who lives across the road...they are fairly new in town and not used to the local smells and flavors yet"... i said with a big smile...
at this i thought that the deputy was goingto laugh/cough coffee out of his nose he was laughing so hard...
He smiled back and said " Yea...moving to the country can be a bit of an adjustment...you gonna play nice, right?...(big grin)
Oh yes sir! i may play loud, but i will certainly play nice...
That is 2 good LEO experiences in a row...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.
