Got an appointment with our vet. yesterday.

He says Dash is closer to 2 years old and in very good health. He appears to be allergic to fleas (that's why the hair is missing from parts of his lower back/hind legs, etc.) While he has no fleas at this time we'll need to keep an eye on him and get him on some flea medicine/drops to keep him from picking up more. Honestly, fleas have never been an issue with our dogs. Not sure why but I wonder if its all the cedar chips I put in their dog houses every winter. They track it all over their pen.

Just one day and he has learned what "go to the pen" means. I take them for a walk, give them a couple doggy treats and say, "go to the pen," and he turns and heads that way and goes in the gate (he'll come back out if the hound dog dawdles, which she does).

Gave him his first heartworm pill yesterday and we're looking forward to several years of companionship/fun.

Oh, road to and from the vet's. office just great. Laid down and actually seemed to fall asleep on the way home (unlike the hound dog which has to be fought/shoved away from me all the way down/back. I love a good mixed breed dog that has a good bit of bird dog mixed in, they are great dogs (most of the time).

Bird dog breed that makes the best pet has got to be a Brittany. Sweet, even-tempered dogs, wonderful with kids. And they are good, hearty outside dogs that don't need to be kept inside; which is good because they shed so much. Mine actually liked cold weather and would go wallow in any water that wasn't frozen at the first opportunity.
