Who Changed The 2nd Amendment?

Post by AnkleBiter »

I found this concerning and somewhat of an offense, does anyone else read this as I do?

https://www.whitehouse.gov/1600/constitution

"The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms".

As the original reads and this as well should read the following; "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".

It would be more accurate to state "The Second Amendment recognizes the natural or God-given right of the citizens to keep and bear arms"; or something along those lines.

The key thing is that the Bill of Rights recognizes pre-existing rights, as opposed to granting them. Rights are pre-existing; privileges are granted.

But, of course, when you consider who is residing in the White House, it should come as no shock that they would think that they were the ones entitled to bestow rights upon the people.

To put that real meaning would mean the progressives admit there is a higher power. This they won't do. If they do make some lip service to a higher power they are lying 'cause to tell the truth they hold themselves to be god and in control of everything.

Well, yes.

Once God is removed, something has to fill that void. Government is the obvious and most convenient filler.

Sure, it's a paraphrase. But, it's an inaccurate paraphrase.

The Bill of Rights doesn't "give" rights; it recognizes them. A small, but very important, distinction.

We can say "paraphrase", but what we ought to say is "misstate".

If it is inaccurate (and it is), then by definition it is not a paraphrase. It is a misstatement.
