Alright, kinetic, now do your share.
I am a pretty hard core libertarian and I salute SCOTUS's ruling on THIS particular issue.
So now go to any folks in your political realm (yeah, I am being politically incorrect) and remind them that we libertarians fought vociferously for your right to marry whom you want without government interference. SCOTUS has upheld it as a fundamental individual right.
Now we need Congress, SCOTUS, and the States to remember the Second Amendment HAS EVEN MORE WEIGHT.
Preach it. Teach it. We need every ally we can.

I would suspect that if you were to poll the gay community as a whole they are a pretty left leaning group and would more than likely vote for more gun laws and against the 2nd Anendment. But I could be wrong...

Re: Alright, kinetic, now do your share.
What crossed my mind as I drove home, the Second Amendment followers could use this law as a PRECEDENT for CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMITS!
If they're gonna reject that individual states have separate laws for MARRIAGE... then they ALL have to accept the CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMITS FROM ALL STATES! NO MATTER WHAT THEIR LAWS STATE!
heh-heh... If we did this? I can see some Gay Anti-gunners needing duct tape. "BUT!...BUT!...THAT'S OUR LAW!"
NOPE! THAT IS THE LAW!

Honestly it really is. In the past statements like that were considered over the top and superlative. But in all truth - America (as we knew it) is now more or less gone.Jeff82 wrote:What we got was the [s]beginning[/s] middle of the end of this country.
The public school system and television now dominate who we are, we have no culture and or morals anymore. Think about it, what is considered "American" today? We are a society of all inclusiveness and "do whatever feels good to you" society now. The all-inclusiveness becomes a little tricky though because you're not supposed to offend anyone. Well, except anyone that involves white people, traditional values, gun rights or Christian morals.

Re: Alright, kinetic, now do your share.
The correct way to have handled this issue is to get government entirely out of marriage. This includes eliminating all laws and regulations that provide subsidies or other favorable treatment to married couples over individuals.
And the fair way to do that is eliminate income taxes and estate taxes that confiscate the earnings and property of individuals.
It also means that government can not force people (or their businesses) to participate in or support marriages that violate their consciences. This means not forcing churches to marry gays (or threesomes or bestial partners), not forcing adoption agencies to give children to gay couples, etc.
But these things will not happen. Government wants to destroy all social institutions that compete with it. When government becomes the only source of social sanction or credentials, combined with its power of legal violent coercion, Orwell's nightmare will be complete.
And this is what the "fundamental transformation of America" means.

Does that liberty go for polygymists as well or are they excluded from freedom? I have a funny feeling SCOTUS will refuse to hear THAT case when it comes up.ShotgunBlast wrote:Freedom to marry. Freedom to carry. Liberty is good.

Who knows. As long as government is involved in the marriage process, there will always be wonky scenarios that need sorting out. If polygamy gets past the single digits in support who knows what might come in front of the judges one day. I think that's why we all support limited government to help reduce the frequency of those wonky scenarios.Ron71 wrote:Does that liberty go for polygymists as well or are they excluded from freedom? Re: Alright, kinetic, now do your share.
I regularly talk on a gay forum about this, about protection. I find the same responses there as anywhere else, some see it necessary and others do not. I betting that the ones who don't probably don't live in "hostile" areas, that is areas that have a larger population of those that see gays as an abomination.
As always I find myself in the borderland between the two, seeing as I live in NoVa where it is more tolerant. I don't take chances so I carry.
I also feel women should think about it as well as a firearm is the great equalizer, there is no one so strong that a bullet cannot bring down.
As for polygamy, I'm neither for or against it, it's not my concern in the same way any other marriage is of no concern. It's all really personal and I'm not one to pry into others' business. From my view of the those around me who are married I could see no worse hell that multiple people nagging you all the time.
I still have faith in this country as I learned long ago not to despair, for it is a dark road that leads no where but to one's own agony. I think Yoda said it best "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering".

You might be surprised (as I was) to find a strong thread of 2nd Amendment support in the gay community meets the libertarian community: http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2014/ ... court.htmlRon71 wrote:I would suspect that if you were to poll the gay community as a whole they are a pretty left leaning group and would more than likely vote for more gun laws and against the 2nd Anendment. Well let's hope THEY as a minority of their minority - are just as vocal and politically effective at getting things done as the GBLT community as a whole has been.arlington22201 wrote:You might be surprised (as I was) to find a strong thread of 2nd Amendment support in the gay community meets the libertarian community: http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2014/ ... court.html

You know who REALLY loves firearms?
Lesbians. I have a plethora of them at work and have them all hooked like crack on firearms!
Pistols, shotguns, rifles, you name it!
But they won't support Pro-gun people. That's what burns me up. YOU LIKE SHOOTING, YOU LIKE SAME SEX... THEY ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!

Yeah, it's weird to me how many folks think if you believe in ensuring THIS, it means you can't then believe in THAT. Not everything is a win:lose; sometimes it's a win:win. When it comes to the government, it's usually lose:lose.Reverenddel wrote:You know who REALLY loves firearms?

Except most politicians make it mutually exclusive and while they LIKE guns, they ARE lesbians so they vote for the politicians that like lesbians.
The SCOTUS has given the GOP the perfect opportunity to tweak their platform. If they decide to keep marching down the social conservatism road they truly will go the way of the Whigs.

You want 3 more wives? Don't worry. You're rights will be well protected. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, our government is very solicitous of the mentally handicapped.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

You can laugh, but I can see a request from Muslims to be allowed to have multiple wives. After all, it's their constitutional right, right?
