Carry at The Diamond?
Carry at The Diamond?
Has anyone carried there lately? Going to a Flying Squirrels game... wondering what to expect. Thanks.

How did it go? I have no idea. I know they search bags, but have never walked through metal detectors there.
Re: Carry at The Diamond?
Probably not well. From their website:
Weapons: For the safety of all guests, pocket knives and weapons of any kind are not permitted at The Diamond. The only exception to this is law enforcement personnel in the performance of their official duties. Guests wishing to enter the stadium for a game or event consent to a reasonable search for weapons before entering. Failure to comply with the above conditions will be denied admittance or may be ejected. No refunds or exchanges will be allowed in such an event.

They searched bags and purses. No wands or metal detectors.
But it's clear they are in violation here:

And, the Diamond is owned by "a locality" - the City of Richmond. From this:§ 15.2-915. Control of firearms; applicability to authorities and local governmental agencies.
A. No locality shall adopt or enforce any ordinance, resolution or motion, as permitted by § 15.2-1425, and no agent of such locality shall take any administrative action, governing the purchase, possession, transfer, ownership, carrying, storage or transporting of firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof other than those expressly authorized by statute. For purposes of this section, a statute that does not refer to firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof, shall not be construed to provide express authorization.

So, the city needs to update their rules because it is causing confusion among firearm carriers. Am I missing something? In 2013, the Authority became more proactive in helping frame an environment for equalizing representation. In March 2013, the Authority’s Board unanimously authorized the Chief Executive Officer to pursue negotiations to transfer ownership of City-funded assets to the City of Richmond. These assets included the Expressway Parking Deck, Second Street Parking Deck, and Carytown Parking Decks. The Diamond, which was built at the request of all three jurisdictions on City-donated land, was also considered for ownership transfer. The Authority and the City agreed to transfer the parking facilities to the City during 2013 and 2014, and The Diamond was transferred in December 2014.

I had an email exchange with the team's GM. His feeling was that he could ban weapons, although I explained to him that the building was covered under 15.2-915. In the end, we agreed to disagree.
