Question for Utah Permit Holders/Trainers

Due to emergent travel requirements, I find myself in the market of getting the Utah Permit.

What is the typical turnaround time, once you take the class, to receive the permit? Just trying to figure out if I have a shot at getting it before I travel in July.

Ooooooo, I dunno brother... it took me from about mid June to about the first week of August to get mine for a trip at the end of August, and that was considered fast.

I'm a Utah instructor. July is doubtful. Utah has 60 days to get your permit back to you and the average turnaround time is 52-58 days right now.

I figured I might be out of luck.

I'll probably take the class somewhere when I get back home. Think ultimately it's still worth getting.

If Proshooter's class were only a couple days later this month...

As a follow up to this thread:

Given the arseclownery that the VA AG is attempting to pull, I finally got around to getting to going to a Utah class.

I selected going to ProShooter's course because, at the time, they were the nearest course I could find to me. CSA VB had advertised them on their website, but had none scheduled. When I inquired with CSA, they indicated they had no interest in holding those classes.

The class is held at the Bass Pro Shop just off of I-95 in Ashland, in the second floor seminar room. The room was at capacity (50), but there was still enough room to be comfortable. Drinks and Scooby Snacks were available for purchase from Bass Pro.

The training materials were comprehensive and effective. The class represented a wide range of shooting experience, from the seasoned owner (e.g. been shootin' all my life) to those new to firearms. Jim did an excellent job in teaching the material at the correct level, not talking down to new shooters while doing a good job of keeping the seasoned folks engaged, suppressing what easily could have been a "Been There - Done That - Give Me My Cert" climate. He answered all questions professionally and respectfully, esp. the ones that distract from the class to chase down somebody's personal rabbit hole. It's clear that Jim has the heart of a teacher and cares about presenting the material well.

Instructions on filling out the Utah form were made very clear. I was also pleased that Jim mentioned some second order effects of the VA AG Reciprocity Appeal (i.e. No SC reciprocity at all, FL out-of-state requires a live fire component).

The class runs for 6 hours, which may seem a little long for some. However, for the money spent, it's time well invested. Looking forward to linking up again with ProShooters to complete the FL Live Fire demonstration.

I contrast this experience with my instruction getting my VA license. Admittedly, I went to one of those gun show classes - overpriced, with a condescending instructor. Knowing what I know now, I would have driven the 90 minutes and taken a class with Proactive Shooters.

I highly recommend taking this course, if you have the ability to do so.

PS: Very shortly after I paid my money for the course, CSA VB began to schedule Utah classes. I stuck with ProShooters becuase 1) I think attempting refunds might have been a pain and 2) The timing of CSA VB, despite not being interested before, in offering the Utah class, was more a financially opportunistic move and less like they were trying to help the gun community.

Again, this is an unadvertised report/endorsement. Nothing gained here, but wanted to share my experience.
