Good looking build ORS. I see that you have joined to Darkside of the pistol brace.

Man, hat looks awesome! I'm really liking that handguard.
How do you like the rubber grips? I put one on one of my rifles and was thinking about swapping all of my grips... but your Hogue grip looks nicer than the Magpul grip I bought.

Yeah, that thing is like having an angry alligator clamped onto my wrist and forearm. Good thing it can't be used as a butt stock. Because that would be wrong.0ne5hot wrote:Good looking build ORS. I see that you have joined to Darkside of the pistol brace.

I like the Hogue rubber grip because it's softer and I can get a better hold on. Plus it doesn't beat me up quite as bad as the hard plastic grips.MarcSpaz wrote:Man, hat looks awesome! I'm really liking that handguard.

I am using Midwest Industries handguards on almost all of my ARs they are light and you can't beat the price IMO

I love these guns. I just finished mine a few months ago. I went with the traditional furniture look.

That's very nice, indeed!
Did you refinish the stock handguards or are those aftermarket? Who makes the folding stock?

The stock handguards were refinished using red dye and shellac. The stock is an Ace folding stock.OakRidgeStars wrote:That's very nice, indeed!![]()

I'm getting ready to finish a set of IronWood handguards for a Yugo M70 underfolder using Rit dye and Deft gloss clear spray. The stock handguards are black plastic, so refinishing wasn't an option.
This will be my first time using Rit dye. Should be an interesting project.

Re: Zastava M92 AK Pistol Build Upgrades
The new wood for my Yugo M70 underfolder is still about 3 weeks out. So I decided to grab two sets of M92 pistol handguards, and a crusty nasty old set from my WASR-10/63 UF and see what I could do. My goal was an authentic Russian Red finish using RIT dye.
Here's where the before picture would have been if my memory card hadn't crapped out. I still might be able to revive it. I'll keep trying.

Here's what I have so far using RIT dye and Deft Clear Spray Gloss.
Click on picture to view full size. I followed the instructions from this forum post. I only made a few small tweaks by adding slightly more red than the post called for.

I used 1 part RIT Scarlet Red, 1 part RIT Golden Yellow, and 4 parts isopropyl alcohol.
This is my first attempt and there are a few things I'll do different once the new furniture arrives. All in all, not a bad first run.

Thanks. It's actually a lot shinier than the pictures show, and the cheap wood doesn't have much visible grain pattern. The new IronWood hand guards will likely look even better.

The old girl doesn't look too bad with dyed hand guards and a Tula bakelite magazine and grip.

After seeing RO73's M92 with red hand guards, I had to give it a go on one of mine too. The verdict?
I like it!

Very nice work. A bit tedious but it's always worth it in the end.OakRidgeStars wrote:After seeing RO73's M92 with red hand guards, I had to give it a go on one of mine too. The verdict?

RO73, What stock is that? Looks like an ACE folder? Also, how is it installed (welded or screwed)? Looks great and clean!
