Picked up an Smith & Weson M&P .40

Post by 2k05gt »

I wanted a .40, my Ruger SR 9mm if ok, for target practice and I well I put 2000 rounds through it but I can shoot the hair off a fly's ass with it..
and the 1911-A1 .45 ACP it just too heavy to carry and only holds 7 rounds. Since I really like my Smith & Wesson M&P 15 I figured I would
stick with that Manufacture on this one..

Comes with a nice selection of accessories,
Holster, Magazine Holder and Speed loader ..

Looking good man. I like the looks and that holster seems nice too.

The speed loaders are really nice and save the skin on your fingers.

Yes they do, and it works on 9mm - .45 Yea.. Picked up some ammo today, anyone know what the characteristics between
165 gr and 180 gr ? I picked up both (since it was all walmart had in .40)

Most think that the 165 gr provides a little sharper recoil than the 180 gr. Try them both in the same mag and see what you think. Both bullet weights are popular in the defensive and range ammo categories. I prefer the 180s.

Here is a pretty good primer on defensive handgun ammo:

Well one thing is for certain, the M&P .40 is truly a Service Grade firearm.. This thing needs some major
trigger work.. after 100 rounds my finger hurt, 6.5 lb pull is a workout for the digit..

These folks have some good M&P trigger fixes: https://www.apextactical.com/

If you are not comfortable installing a trigger kit yourself, then see the armorer at Virginia Arms in Manassas. You may also want to check with this armorer on what trigger upgrade would be best for you.

Apex is good stuff. If you like the "1911 short takeup", FSS kit. Ident with the Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit.

That said, the new M&Ps have better triggers. They adapted the Shield triggers.

An Apex trigger job will void your warranty - if that is a concern to anyone.

I hated the trigger on my M&P40 for the first 500 or so rounds. Then it started to smooth out on its own. It is my only .40 in the lineup these days, and has only hicupped once in 1200 rounds (with a too light load of H Universal).
