A 9mm revolver is just a .38 with different brass and performance characteristics about midway between .38 special and .357 magnum.
I'll grant you the bullet diameter is SLIGHTLY smaller, less than 1% smaller, 9.01 mm as opposed to 9.1 mm for the other two.
Also the typical bullet profile is different, mostly, I assume due to the fact that the 9x19mm parabellum round was designed to feed properly in a semi-auto.
