Mandatory voting?

Post by Swampman »

So much for the right to NOT cast a ballot.

The only lever I want to see stupid people pulling is the one on the side of the toilet tank. If they don't care, I don't want them in the polling booth.

Agreed. Having the right to exercise your vote includes the right to abstain

I don't agree with the government making ANYTHING mandatory!

As soon as you give them small control? They hunger for BIG control!

I'm pretty sure that no government, anywhere understands "small".

Mandatory for everyone to vote? Hell, I want to see voting privileges limited in certain cases. That runs a bit contrary to what the Emperor is suggesting.

Let's be honest, there are some people too stupid to choose their own LUNCH, much less who'll represent them in the guv'mint.

A "poll tax" is ridiculous, but how about a law that states if you have a JOB, or RETIRED from a job, you can vote?

Because if you're getting guv'mint assistance, or if you're a youngish college student, you're biased, and your views are skewed towards a unproductive methodology.

Yep. That's my general line of thought. If you contribute to society, you have a say in how that society runs. If you do not contribute, you have no say.

I love how Barry uses Australia as an example of what we should be doing. Yea.. a socialist country with a president who suspended the constitution and the people have been living in a police state for the last year. Sure, lets model their "best practices". Idiot.

We are supposed to have a representative government. If there is no candidate that represents me, my views and my values, you can't force me to vote for someone who goes against my values just for the sake of voting.

I'm with you guys on the whole "can't vote unless you have skin in the game" idea. Lazy people getting free stuff will continue to vote to get free stuff.

The truth is, the president thinks forcing people to vote will be a guaranteed win for the Left every time or he wouldn't push it. Last I checked, there were only about 55 million registered Republicans, but a huge amount more registered Democrats at almost 75 million

What he doesn't realize is that there are about 40 million registered Independents who tend to vote R more often than D, and there are about 140 million people who haven't registered a party alignment at all. You force all of those people to vote and the POTUS may be very, very disappointed in the results.

Then... you can't count the number of people like me. I'm a self proclaimed Constitutional Conservative who leans Libertarian on some issues, but I am a registered Democrat because the very first time I registered to vote, I noted I was a Dem... but have sense came to my senses and haven't updated my registration record.

I wasn't registered as anything, until I lived in Florida. I started hanging out with a group of Constitutional Conservatives who had joined the Young Republicans, in an effort to take over the Republican party. So, I changed my registration to Republican, so that I could join in their efforts.

Oh... that's coming. Don't worry. But it will be as a slave in a Socialist Utopia where everyone works all day for the sake of mankind instead of for money. Everyone will be in gray uniforms, live in identical houses, and all have the same means. Well, everyone except the ruling class. They will have the finest cars, homes, clothes, food and armed security that tyranny can force you to provide for them.

The only problem with the job idea is that many good people who are not on welfare get laid off all the time.
I could see Democrat leaning businesses firing Republicans around election time every 4 years if this were the case.

Yeah, but in those cases, there's a consistent record of holding a job. And, of course, there's the pesky thing of losing productive employees, every time there's an election. Politics aside, that sort of behavior is bad for business.
