Cell Phone Etiquette

Post by Greybeard »

We were just seated in a booth at a local restaurant, my wife with her back to a man in the booth behind her and me facing my wife and thus the other man's date. The woman was on her Cell/Mobile phone talking intently to a friend as we sat down.

They were served their food just after we were seated, the woman still on the phone. Even just being able to see the back of the man, I could tell by his body language he was becoming very upset with the woman.

She continued on the phone for the entire meal, talking loudly and annoying everyone seated within earshot.

Now the REALLY good part.

The man said to the waitress, "We'll have separate checks, please." The woman's mouth dropped open and she said "But I didn't bring any money. We're on a date and you're supposed to pay". The man replied "You're right,
we were on a date. You have a phone. Call your friends to bring you some
money. You talked to them all night and ignored me. Ask them for a ride home,
too." At that, the man walked to the cashier, paid for his meal and left the woman sitting there dumbfounded.

Did something similar, went on a blind date, met her at the restaurant in Carytown, she got on the phone with an unnecessary phone call not soon after arriving, talked the entire dinner on the phone. I paid for the tab, and as she drove herself to the restaurant for the blind date.

I walked her to her car, she paused saying "this was fun, we should do this again."

I replied "No thank you. I require my dinner companions to accompany me, not be a sidebar. You have a good evening."

Turned on a dime, and walked home (It was in Carytown). Called the friends (a couple) who set me up on the date, and read them the riot act. They apologized for her behavior.

Last...blind...date...ever.

I have a real estate friend who lives on his phone, even when he's out fishing and golfing. I finally had to tell him...........Be where you are.

I've always wondered, "Why do people always feel the need to talk to the one's that are not with them"?

I wonder when they talk to me via cell phone who they are with? :)
