Re: Dumb People for Smart Guns
Do magnets still kill computerized things?
It would be interesting to know if a strong magnet could disable one of these things. Or if a strong magnet would just bypass the whole "smart " technology, all together.
Myself, I don't rightly care for the behavior of computer technology when it's applied to automobiles. But, when the computer fries on my car, the car shuts down and I roll over to the shoulder. I'm annoyed, and highly inconvenienced, but it probably won't kill or hurt me. What happens if the gun computer fails?

Re: Dumb People for Smart Guns
These people are stupid. They think Glock is famous/popular among gun owners because police use them. hahahaha
And I don't typically trust $400 guns for saving my life (very few exceptions)... never mind a $400 gun full of electronics.
H, I can disable ANY smart gun with magnetic energy, typically in the form of radio frequency energy being focus with a directional antenna. I don't care what type of tech it uses. If its electronic, it can be broken or overridden remotely.
I have a neighbor who asked me not too long ago to take down or reposition one of my outdoor antennas because whenever I would broadcast on a specific frequency his refrigerator would start making crazy noises and his microwave oven would start running until I released the mic button.

Re: Dumb People for Smart Guns
I don't doubt it, Marc. Just one more reason to distrust the "smart" technology when it comes to firearms. If I can think of using magnetic energy to disable one of these things, and you can respond to that thought with radio waves and a directional antenna, what do you reckon a "smart " criminal will think of, or actually do?

Re: Dumb People for Smart Guns
I'm not worried about the criminals. They will have good ole' fashion mechanical guns... same as always.
What I am worried about is, the law abiding citizen that has a gun the fails when its needed most.
Or worst... the government disabling our guns with a technical jam or even a built in override.
The day that companies can't sell anything but smart guns, my $500 G17 will be worth $40k and the full auto's will push into the hundreds of thousands...

Re: Dumb People for Smart Guns
It's not that I'm particularly worried about criminals; it's just that the officers who get to test these ill-conceived contraptions might want worry about it.
The two concerns that you stated, of course, concern me, as well.
The primary problem that these guns address- it's all about the kids, you know- that can be resolved by teaching your children properly.
Technology will never be superior, or even a passable substitute, to actual parenting.

When I finally sat down and read a full article on smart guns, I almost died laughing.
