A yankee daddy's worst nightmare?

Post by dorminWS »

This isn't funny because of the race angle as much as because we all know most Yankees are more racist than Jim Crow itself.
.................................................
Marrying a Southern girl

The Northerner's son graduated from college and was offered a good
job, but it was in the deep South.

Dad, a liberal Democrat, was worried about his son going off to such a
strange land and he warned him to avoid entanglements with southern
women.

"They can't cook the kind of food we northerners eat, they won't keep
the house clean, they don't like sex, and if you marry one, she'll
call you a 'Damn Yankee' the rest of your life. "

After a few months, the son telephoned Dad and told him he had just
met a wonderful Southern girl, and thought he was in love with her.

Dad repeated his warnings about Southern women and their shortcomings.

After another couple of months, the son called Dad and told him he and
his Southern girl were getting married. Dad just moaned and groaned
and repeated his warnings.

Two more months go by and son telephones Dad......"Dad, you were
wrong. My wife is a great cook, keeps the house neat as a pin, and she
absolutely loves sex."

Dad responded, "Well, what about the fourth thing -- her calling you a
Damn Yankee?"

"Oh, we reached an agreement on that. She won't call me a Damn
Yankee, and I won't call her the N word.

LMAO!

My father has always been fairly outspoken about his general disdain for Yankees, as a whole. While there have been a few folks of Northern Persuasion, over the years, that have earned Dad's respect, he just has never cared much for Yankees.

When I was about 5, my family lived in Delaware, and Dad was obligated to attend a social function at the boss's house, and bring his family with him. My mother was concerned about this. She was afraid, since Dad was outspoken about Yankees, and referred to Delaware as "Yankee Land", that my sister or I might make some disparaging remark about Yankees that would embarrass her. Because, kids are good for that, you know.

So, she asked Dad to address the issue with us. So my father called us into his presence, with my mother observing. "Now Children, " he began, " Where we are going, there will be a lot of Yankees. Yankees are ashamed of being Yankees, so we don't want to remind them that they are Yankees. So don't say anything about Yankees."

Mom was a bit frustrated with Dad. Apparently, that wasn't the speech that she had in mind.

The party went well, by the way. Well, until a passing car backfired. Apparently, my sister and I misinterpreted the noise as cannon fire. We both started screaming "The Yankees are coming! The Yankees are coming!" , as we both ran to hide under the table. Mother, of course, was mortified. Dad probably thought it was hilarious.

TRUE! People think there is blatant racism in the South. Not so much, as our cultures have blended for over 200 years together. Things are isolated into "neighborhoods" up North. Even as close as D.C. (Love their "Chinatown" district!)

But in the TRUE South, both races eat the same foods, live similar lives, drive similar vehicles, hunt/fish the same patch. "Race" doesn't really get into things until we talk about entertainment, and politics.

Both of which make a fortune off the divisions of race, not the joining.

I've met some Crispy White Folks that haven't a clue about hunting/fishing/raising a garden/having livestock/living quietly. Let me tell ya'. I've met rednecks that were red, black, yellow, and caramel... and we didn't care about that. We loved our guns, our God, and our Country. What's more American than that?

Couldn't agree more, & have had similar experiences. The most racially divided places I've ever been, were all urban areas outside of the south.
