He guys, figured I'd plug a new email service I got today, it's called protonmail, it's a FREE email service with end to end encryption, basically works the way lavabit (the email service Edward Snowden used) works, expect their servers are in Switzerland, so even IF they could get seized (which they can't) the email is unreadable that way due to the encrption. Figured there was a lot of like minded people here when it came to privacy and spying/selling of our emails.
The downside is there is a wait for an account, you have to sign up and wait, but it's worth it. Mine took about 6 weeks to get but hey, it's free!

I don't work for them or anything, just very happy to have my email privacy back.

That's downright spiffy. I wonder why the waiting period?

I use TheBright.com. It's a pay service, but effective and inexpensive.

Re: Get Big Brother out of your inbox!
The burst of users happened so quick there servers weren't enough to handle all the new traffic, they've added some more and are still adding. They did a crowdfund to raise 100,000 for servers and wound up getting over 500,000! They say there gonna keep adding so it should speed up. There used to be an option to pay (as a donation) to jump the line but not sure if that's still an option. There a small operation, it's an MIT grad and 2 security experts but since their housing everything in Switzerland (the .ch) to keep it safe from prying eyes I guess the costs are high. I figure the more people the better.SHMIV wrote:That's downright spiffy. I wonder why the waiting period?

Re: Get Big Brother out of your inbox!
Just looked into that, if I'm understanding it right it's not really Email, but private person to person mail, so if somebodies not "invited" in to the system you can't send or receive mail? Seems that would be great for a inter business stuff but can you really replace your normal email with that? The only other problem I see is it's not end to end encrypted which is where it's get's hairy these days, if YOU can get it from your computer than OTHER people can in thoery, also if their servers are US based, who know what could be done! Of course that doesn't mean it would but these days who knows whats going on.MNMGoneShooting wrote:I use TheBright.com. It's a pay service, but effective and inexpensive.

Re: Get Big Brother out of your inbox!
Just got my Protonmail account - swampman@protonmail.com.
That other service (TheBright.com), looks fine, but there is one similar to it that is free called GroupMe. Like TheBright, it is an invite only service. Daughter over on the wrong side of the Atlantic has it set up so she can communicate easily with my wife and I as well as anyone else invited to the group.
And Protonmail is only end-to-end encryption if BOTH parties are using Protonmail accounts. Email sent to/from a regular email account is not encrypted.
