Went to Black Creek yesterday.
Shot my P09 (may have found a good load for it). Shot my M&P (got 50 more rounds though it without a failure to fire - maybe its finally "fixed". Not sure if it'll stay fixed, but so far, so good. Shot my AR15 carbine and my M1 Garand. I
I had some loads worked up with TAC (never used it before but it seems like it might work out pretty good). I'll make some more up at the accurate charge weights for each one and make another range trip. One of the things that seemed nice was that the charge weights on either side of the most accurate loads were nearly as accurate as the most accurate load. Hopefully that means if there is a small variation from on round to the next, it won't affect the accuracy. In the .223 loads I went up from the starting load in 0.2 grain increments. In the 30.06 I went up from the start load in 0.5 grain increments.
The most accurate loads in both were one step back from the heaviest powder charge and those aren't close to the max. loads listed in the reloading manuals. The TAC metered with great consistency from my Uniflo powder measure.
Oh, there was a sign inside the office that said on Jan. 1, 2015 the range would no longer be Black Creek range. The owner of the range said he'd tried to reach an agreement with the Black Creek Shooter's Association but had failed. He wants to retire and he was negotiating with them to take over maintenance/running of the range and pay rent for the use of the facilities. He said they'd decided not to do that and told him they were going to buy some property in New Kent County and build a range there.
He did say that he would continue to operate the range next year and fees would be the same. He said that right now he had no mailing list for current members and we might have to go to the range to pay next years fees and sign up to use the range. Probably starting in November he'll be doing that.
Check it out if you shoot there. Oh, some other members were there and they expressed surprise that the Association management wasn't telling members about it.
Black Creek yesterday
Re: Black Creek yesterday
I got a letter in the mail last week from Black Creek saying that they had failed to secure a lease with Mr Young, but that he planned on allowing folks to use the range next year. The advise in the letter was to call or go by in person to talk to him. Glad to hear your update. Sounds like I need to make a trip out there in November.
