Yea, they are great for sending rounds down range, but have zero expectation of it saving your life if/when needed.
I have two friends with hi-points and my brother does too. All 3 complain about jams and fail to feed / fail to fire. My brother said no less often than every two mags.

That may be true for there handguns or other, but i've heard the complete opposite for there carbines that seem to pass torture tests with flying colors... agree?

Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
My friend has a Hi Point carbine. When I shot it, it worked flawlessly, and he said that it had been reliable, but it felt like junk to me and I would never buy one. But that's just my opinion.
Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
Someone said Hi-Point...
I heard about a guy who fired a Hi Point, which blew up. The shrapnel killed his whole family, the bullet ricocheted and killed his dog, and then sparks from the ricochet burned his house down, and then the shell casing landed on a voting machine and registered a vote for the political party he disagreed with. Yep, true story.

Haven't heard about any testing.SeniorXJ wrote:That may be true for there handguns or other, but i've heard the complete opposite for there carbines that seem to pass torture tests with flying colors... agree?
Of the hi point owners I do know that have there 9mm carbine, I have not heard any complaints. I have fire 2 of them personally. For a handgun round out of a low price point weapon, it seemed pretty good. I fired about 100 rounds total through the two of them. If I was on a "cup of soup" budget. I would buy one.
No way am I buying the pistol. The lifetime warranty is worthless if you're dead.

The story would end better if it went... "and that was the 'hi-point' of his day." LOL

(& yes I get your point & its a good one!)
Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
In addition to Hi-Points, there are plenty of handguns marketed as inexpensive alternatives. Don't care for them either. I go by this old axiom:
Good guns are not cheap, and cheap guns are not good.
If you have limited funds, consider a second hand good gun.

Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
I'm highly starting to eye ball the "Smith & Wesson SD9 VE 9mm" & which can be found new for under $400, or the "Ruger SR9C 9mm" which is a bit over $400 brand new & both have everything I'm after!!!
Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
The SD9 sells for just over a hundred dollars less than a standard M&P 9mm. The M&P is universally regarded as as a solid and highly reliable pistol. I wonder what Smith and Wesson "cut out" or changed to shave a little more than a hundred dollars from the retail cost of the M&P 9mm to end up with the SD9 VE 9mm? Personally, I would find a way to get a few more bucks together and buy an M&P rather than a SD.SeniorXJ wrote:I'm highly starting to eye ball the "Smith & Wesson SD9 VE 9mm" & which can be found new for under $400,

I agree with this. The M&P is a quality gun. If someone took away all my Glocks and told me that I could only use an M&P, I'd be perfectly content.Chasbo00 wrote: The SD9 sells for just over a hundred dollars less than a standard M&P 9mm. I also agree with the advice to look into a good quality used gun. On Friday I saw a used FN FNS with night sights but very little use for sale at my LGS, so I snagged it.
Buds has M&Ps for $425-450 with free shipping. Add $25 for FFL fee, and you're well under $500.
Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
The price for the SD9c was quoted off of there website & the only thing stopping me from getting an M&P is whether I want full or compact.
I'm also always gonna concider looking for good quality used guns.

Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
Sorry, S&W SR9c
Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
Thought I posted this already but;
I know S&W makes a spring kit that reduces the pull from 10 to 7, but with that aside, would it be worth the $ of doing a trigger job?

Re: First Time Handgun Buyers Advice:
A lot of M&P talk & no Ruger which was my 2nd pick.
So how would the Ruger 9e, SR9, or SR9c stack up?
