Do you have a Marlin or Henry lever-action .35 Remington or 45-70 on hand?

Anyone thinking of doing business with this company should check out the reviews on Yelp at http://www.yelp.com/biz/nova-firearms-falls-church I have never seen so many bad reviews.

You're new here, and the first (and only) three posts on the forum are to point out negative reviews of a local gun store? What's your story? Is that the only reason you joined this forum? Do you have any personal experience with this store?

Yes, I have substantial experience with Nova Arms, and posted a detailed description of my experience with them on Yelp. I very much regret that I did not google Nova Arms before doing business with them; it would have saved me a lot of aggravation. After the fact, I belatedly discovered this thread and the many negative reviews on Yelp. And yes, I joined this forum so that I could warn others.

I've had several interactions with NOVA Firearms, both purchases and transfers. Every thing went "smooth as silk". I have absolutely no complaints

Their FFL transfers have gone up to $50 + the $2 state police fee. OTOH, their website says that they will price match and that there are no transfer fees for in-house purchases.

They say they price match, but when I showed them an online price for a new colt, they told me they couldn't match it. I'm all for supporting local businesses but when the online prices are leaps better, no sales tax, and a store that says they will price match will not actually do it, there's no reason to shop there.

Where did you find an online store that doesn't collect sales tax??
Also, exactly how are you going to get an online store to deliver the gun to you?
Do you have an FFL or know one that will do the transfer for free?
[sarcasm]
I'm really sure that FFLs that are trying to meet overhead, salaries, and keep up a reasonable inventory don't really appreciate someone having a firearm shipped to them that they stock so the buyer can save 20 bucks.

Although I agree with the majority of your post, every online gun purchase I've made, I've never been charged sales tax.

I wondered about that when I made that post. But why would gun purchases be any different? Many of my online purchases I make have sales tax added.
As I wrote that sentence I realized that it might be due to the company I'm ordering from having a physical presence in Virginia. Is that possibly the reason?
For example, an online order from WalMart for a product not in stock at my local stores.

That is exactly why you are charged a sales tax. If that company has a brick & mortar presence in your state, you pay the sales tax otherwise, you do not.

Well, that explains that.
Back to my original post, is the tax savings REALLY enough to keep someone from supporting their local purveyor of things that go BANG?

That depends on the shipping charges and how long it takes to get it on your porch. I always try to buy locally but some calibers are hard to find here in town, like 7.62x39 range ammo (brass).

The sales tax has never been the factor for me. Price + Sales tax has. I try to buy locally when I can, but if the total price difference is $100+, I buy online.

You're pretty much stuck with online, if you want something unusual or discontinued. There is probably some LGS with the right thing on the used gun rack, but running all over NOVA looking for... for example... Hamden High Standards, Steyr GB's, or Remington XP-100's; is not really what I want to do with my time.
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."
