Well my work out regime will definitely change.

Saw two coyotes (male/female) about up to my thigh walking in the neighborhood between Harrowgate, and Rt 1/Jeff Davis.

Explains alot of things. Like... the abscence of stray cats, irritated squirrels, and dogs that will not stop barking.

Crazy thing? I was getting home at 03:00, and heard a PACK of them howling... not... comfortable...

Sooo, just a heads up, and yes animal control has been alerted.

You are exactly right...My buddy that lives on Curtis St. was telling me just a couple of weeks ago he could not figure out why the racoons have finally left his trash cans alone ! I have told him that I have seen Coyotes on several occasions on the RR Tracks not 400' from his house ! It's no telling what a Pack of them will attack !!!

I have coyote in my yard mid-day. My dog got into a scrap with one right in our yard too. They have very little fear of people, at least the ones I have seen in my neighborhood.

Sometimes the ones without fear of people are that way because their brain has been eaten away with rabies. Be careful everywhere. Especially with nocturnal animals roaming around in midday.

One had our cat trapped under the car in our driveway. Fairfax county says I can't shoot it and animal control won't do anything. I've now got a very high powered air rifle in my collection.

Just fenced about 3/4 of my 2 acres to keep the dogs in and other critters out. Fence is a 5 footer and supposedly "non-climbable", but I keep a look out and the .22 on hand anyway. Have not heard or seen one here in NW Warren County, but I've been told they are here.

Does an air pistol exist, that would have enough power to dispatch these creatures effectively?

Just seems that it would be a bit easier to carry around.

If you use an air pistol, my suggestion would be to find one in .22 caliber, with about 1100 FPS velocity, and use the hollowpoints with a high penetration rate (they designed one that looks like a point until hit, then it collapses)

Works great on Possum, but I have no idea how it would work on Yotes. I DO know that you can LEGALLY build a SUPPRESSOR for AIR RIFLES! Just saying!

I will check it out. Very unnerving. Cats and dogs aside. A rabid coyote is a threat to children, and I don't think my 4 foot fence is going to do a blessed thing to stop it.

'Yotes have been a problem out here for several years now. Pretty much wiped out the quail, and grouse are thin on the ground, I hear. I remember 7-8 years ago hearing about the night watchman at a surface mine getting attacked by a coyote. The few folks that run traps around here will occasionally catch one if they set big enough traps. I shot one while dove hunting a couple of years ago, but I'll never know if I killed him or just hurt him pretty bad. 7 1/2 shot ain't the best load for coyotes, but he was way too dang close for my comfort and sneaking in my direction when I shot him. Don't feel at all bad if I just wounded him. Damned vermin. #1 son bagged a bunch of them around Bedford back then on his hunting leases, and Bedford's 200 miles east of here.

At one time, there was a bounty on the female's hide of $50... Dunno if that still exists, but I know once I have everything straight financially, I'm gonna start the process for a "can" on the .22LR

A few years back Chesterfield and Powhatan did pay a bounty for Coyotes...I was told that Hunters from everywhere were bringing in pelts trying to collect the bounty. They finally only paid bounty to residents ! I am pretty sure it has stopped now .

If you don't have any dogs or cats running around outside, could always poison them if you can't shoot them. Either commercial stuff or just anti-freeze inside or besides some meat.

With an Air Rifles, I would go at least 25 cal, I have a couple in this caliber, one that will sling a 25.4 gr pellet at over 900 FPS, for at least 45Ft.Lbs The second one has been modified and will shoot up to 90 Ft.Lbs, both are fully shrouded, so they are Hollywood quiet. I wouldn't try a break barrel type unless you can get a solid head shot. And just for the general knowledge of the members the ratings on most air guns are on the exaggerated side. Specific example, one of the first Air rifles I bought was a Gamo Big Cat, which stated on the box it would shoot 1200 FPS. Once I bought my Chrony, I ran some tests, with normal lead pellets it actually shot 800-825 FPS, nowhere near the manufactures claim of 1200 FPS. I then broke out their alloy pellets which only weigh in at maybe 4 gr on a good day, those would go supersonic, but shot a group like a shot gun. The issue there is the diablo design / shape of airgun pellets start to tumble close to, and above the supersonic range, and when crossing the transonic range. Our firearm bullets are specifically designed not to tumble at higher velocities. My modified high power airgun will also shoot custom swagged bullets, those can be pushed beyond the sweet spot of around 850-950 FPS, but you need a very powerful airgun to do so. I would choose something at least 22 cal, and truly high powered for Yotes, there are many airgun hunters around the country that have taken game animals up to deer, and pigs, even a mountain lion with airguns, but these are generally custom built beasts in large bore calibers. And the Rev is correct you can buy factory suppressed air rifles,and pistols, and there is a good number of high grade aftermarket builders of said devices. I'll find the video for you all where one of the airgun shooters have made 300+, and 600+ yards shots on 12 oz soda cans with custom 257 caliber air rifles, one of those guys has also taken a fey yotes with his. The Air Force platform is a great hunting rifle, and shooting system as you can change calibers, and adjust the power to your needs. They also have two version that are factory shrouded to keep the noise down. Yes these are expensive, but legal to shoot on your property anywhere in the good old commonwealth. I also have a Benjamin Marauder in 25 that is also shrouded, all the way out to 70 yards the tree rats don't even know what hit them, and they are taken with head shots at those distances. It put a ground hog down maybe 6 weeks back, one shot to the head, didn't even need a follow up. DRT
