I dunno, the most knowledgeable doctor and researcher died of Ebola. If the guys in the gloves, masks, and gown are catching it then perhaps there is more to story and masks might be appropriate.

If you work with fire long enough you will get burned at some point, Accidents do happen and humans are fallible creatures. If that strain of Ebola has mutated and became airborne there would be alot more sick/dead aid workers.

Aren't there? I was reading an article that 200 health workers have been killed in this round of Ebola. That causes me great concern.

The second largest outbreak only killed 11 (total infected is hard to find) while this one has killed 60. I think the total number of infected doctors is even more disproportionate as this has a lower fatality rate than previous outbreaks. People try to explain it away with that doctors always are killed in such manners but why not at the same rate? There would be less than 50 dead if it were holding to the same rate as other outbreaks. So since protocol and technology has not gotten any worse over the past 30 years why are things getting worse? Also strange how risks leading to these infections have yet to be identified. It's not just killing the frontier medicine man, its killing our experts, people who know more about these diseases than you know about your own kids. Truth be told if the doctors keep saying that its no big deal cause they got their big fancy suits to protect them, much like Dr. Khan had, not sure if anybody is going to be left to prevent panic.
Suddenly, I take comfort that I spend most of my time confined to a truck cab...
Most of my interaction is with other people confined to truck cabs and folks behind glass windows.
That said, though, GF is currently bugging me to go in in this restaurant and eat something, which compromises my little security bubble, lol. Oh well.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
Imagine that tool in the hand if a despot. You have a serious disease in the country, suddenly all your political enemies are suspected of having the disease and are rounded up and thrown in with those who are known to have the disease. They have no recourse and no rights and they are dead within the month. Political problems solved.
Now what was that about our southern border again?

Cynic speaking, if Ebola comes in big cities, in 6 months what is left of the country will be 80% conservative. Unintended consequences.

Let's see...Andromeda Strain, The Stand, etc. - I think that we've seen this movie. No security/containment system is infallible. All it takes is one mistake or escape, and we're off to the races. As kelu surmises, Obamerica will likely host the deadliest outbreaks. Hubris always ends in disaster.

Sleep tight.
Airborne is a stretch but droplet, even now, is not unlikely. It explains why the docs assuming everything would be fine, while the situation spirals out of control. But it accounts for a mild infection rate compared to something like the flu. Somewhere between airborne and the bullsh!t the CDC is spouting about requiring direct contact with symptomatic people
I was thinking this same thing this morning; except I wasn't thinking about some terrorist having the sophistication and resources to weaponize Ebola as a powder; I was thinking that they could simply hijack medical waste from infected patients containing feces/vomit/blood and disperse it in a public place with something as common as a cherry bomb. Set such a thing off in a half-dozen subway cars or terminals in a large city and the pandemic arrives as soon as rush hour comes and people touch guardrails/handrails/turnstiles, etc. OR - - - - just smear it on a few escalator handrails. Pretty damn scary if you ask me.
