VGOF Official Statement: Do Not Carry a Gun Into DC
There's a lot of discussion today concerning the Saturday ruling by a US District Court Judge regarding the nullification of a couple of Washington DC's gun restrictions. Several discussions have indicated that DC Police Chief Lanier sent out a memo to all DC police telling them not to arrest people from out of state who carry in DC (i.e. non-DC residents).
It is VGOF's official stance at this time that it WOULD NOT BE PRUDENT TO CARRY A FIREARM INTO WASHINGTON DC for several reasons.
1) There is still a lot of confusion related to this ruling, and unless you have wads of cash and a good lawyer to defend you, then it would be best to let things air out for awhile
2) DC still bans magazines over 10 rounds as well as certain types of ammunition. So, if you wander on into DC with your .40 caliber pistol loaded with 14 hollowpoints, you may very well find yourself in a a predicament very quickly.
3) The National Park police are in charge of the Mall and tons of other areas where federal jurisdiction allows for different penalties above and beyond any law that was passed by the DC City Council.
I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts, and possible reasons why to not just jump in the car and drive up to DC today with your sidearm.

I think I have to agree at this time. Not yet a good idea, but I do applaud the judge for his decision.
Let us speak courteously, deal fairly, and keep ourselves armed and ready.

This was a great Constitutional ruling, but there are many layers of infringing gun restrictions left in DC.
Just like any state, you may be allowed to carry there, but it still has to be according to all of their rules peculiar to that jurisdiction, and there are even many jurisdictions within DC.
Lots of land mines still strewn about.
Now that it's possible to carry at all, it'll still take some careful study to figure out how to do it without legal complications.
shall not be infringed would be a while lot simpler.
There should be charges of conspiracy to deny people of their rights against all of the politicians, enforcers, sign makers, clerks, judges, prosecutors, secretaries, and processers.

I don't have any of those "partial capacity" magazines so I guess I still have to stay out.

I try to steer clear of stupidness and DC seems to be overflowing with it, so guess i won't be visiting there anytime soon.

Part of me wishes that 10,000 open carries would march on D.C. and dare the police to start making arrests. The other part of me is not so sure.

Not interested, ever, for any reason. Cold beer in hand, I'll watch the festivities from afar!

Have no use for that "jungle" (D.C.) and even nervous about going to Chantilly. (sigh)

I'm with you Rick. Its fun to joke around and talk about it... but I am really not wanting to test the waters myself... so I could never seriously encourage someone else to try it.
It is a great victory for lovers of Freedom everywhere, but lets let the lawyers and politicians iron out the details and make a public statement.

Re: VGOF Official Statement: Do Not Carry a Gun Into DC
DC is appealing, and they are saying they are going to rewrite the laws meaning they will make so many hoops to jump through that there will be no difference from a ban.
For now though this victory is sweet.

I think the guy in the lower picture is a LEO... does that count since he can carry anyway?
A 1911 with some FMJ's is a great option for states or locals with mag limits and ammo restrictions... just sayin'.
