Saiga semi-auto 410 shotguns

Some questions about Saiga semi-auto 410 shotguns and the sale of guns and ammo on VGOF.

A friend and I thought it would be sporting to use 410 shotguns against clay pigons. We purchased 2 Saiga 410 semi-auto shotguns chambered for 3 inch shells and used HEVISHOT 410 Gauge, 7/16 oz shot, shot size - 4 ammunition. "Sporting" is an understatement.

We found that ammo from certain manufactures of 3 inch shells routinely jammed when the slide tried to push the next round into the chamber. There are 2 settings on the gas chamber of these Saiga's and for some manufacturers one or the other of these settings solved the jamming problem but for some neither setting worked. The gas chamber settings modify the force and timing of loading the next round into the chamber.

We are not familiar with shotguns. This is our first experience. Is the jamming specific to Saigas? Should Saiga add more settings for the gas chamber?

The experience was fun for a while but frustrating. You can get 2 maybe 3 shots off with these Saigas against a clay launched at about 30 degrees lat and long.

We have decided to sell both the Saigas and the ammo. Can we sell the ammo via VGOF, 65 boxes at 10 per box? We have given the Saigas to a local gun shop to sell on consignment. Is it acceptable to post the name of the gun shop and the availability of the Saigas on VGOF?

The Saiga shotguns, regardless of caliber, prefer high brass shotgun shells. You didn't mention this in your post, but how much fiddling did you do with adjusting the gas piston? Which number did you select?

I'm confident that you can make the Saiga's reliable. I would hate to see you sell them, unless you decide to sell them to me.

The Saiga and VEPR12 shotguns are reliable in stock form if adjusted correctly. There are after market gas upgrade kits to make them even more tolerant of lesser quality shells. Feel free to post more questions if we can assist.

This^ but also consider the magazines, in some cases they are made for different shell sizes either 2 & 3/4" or 3", such that if you had used the wrong size magazine it may affect reliability. I would suggest changing up the shells and investigating the magazines before selling so quickly. Guns, autoloading shotguns to perhaps a greater degree can be finicky but usually can be tamed if fed a diet it prefers. Often a weight or certain brand will work in particular. Buying say only/mostly Federal shells, as was the solution for one particular Benelli Automatic with similar issues, is not difficult or expensive compared to using a variety of shells

A setting of #1 worked fine for the ammo that I had purchased. However, the friend that started this whole thing moved to Ohio. Shooting clays with the 410s was a bit challenging so I decided to stick with my 357 S&W Revolver so that I actually hit a target once in a while.
