Providing firearm information at request of lawyer

All...I'm going through a custody battle soon with my ex wife and we're to the point of answering her nasty accusations. At any rate, she is anti-gun and always has been. In her discovery documentation that her lawyer presented mine, she is asking that I provide all documentation on any firearms I own including make/model, serial numbers, receipts of purchase and anything else.

My question is, do I have a right to protect that information or do I have to provide it? It may not be an easy question to answer but I thought Id ask here first, in case my out of state lawyer is unaware of Virginia firearms laws.

ask your lawyer, he should know where to look for whats required.

In a custody battle I would think its all irrellevant. As far as community property that may be different. I could see providing make model and date of purchase for value calculations but not serial number.

But seriously, and for your own good:
(1) If you don't have an attorney in this matter GET ONE FAST.
(2) Tell that lawyer the whole truth and then take his advice.
(3) Don't tell anyone anything EXCEPT your lawyer, and that includes anymore posts on this forum.

Sell them to a GOOD friend for $1...split the difference with soon to be ex. and call it a day. After divorce get them back...or didn't you lose them in a boating accident?

It sounds to me like she is trying to use the guns to say that the home is unsafe for the children to be in. Definitely discuss with your lawyer. In the meantime if you don't already have one invest in two safes. One for the firearms in one room and one in a seperate room for the ammo. You need to present yourself as a responsible gun owner who is extremely anal about safety and keeping everything locked away with absolutely zero chance of your kid/s getting access. I recommend the two safes as that way you may be able to argue that if they get into one of them they would still have to figure out how to get into the other one before there would be the slightest chance of an accident occurring. I hope things work out for you, custody battles are no fun. Just remember the way you and your ex treat each other/speak about each other will have a lasting effect on your kids.

Quick update, for those that just want something new to read...Lawyer says I do not have to provide any serial numbers or other info. If I want to provide a list of the firearms that I own, that's up to me. Good news.
