So totally unrelated to anything

Post by Riposite »

So this has nothing to do with firearms .

But I show up at work this morning around 7:10 and am plugging away for about an hour when an email shows up from HR stating that effective immediately all my reports will now be reporting to another manager in my group. And I am like "oh poop=its a reorg and im getting reduced"

So I reach out to the other manager to see if there is something I should know but apparently this change is a shock to him -so that only makes the dread seep in worse.

Then my boss shows up and she doesn't even go to her desk but is like "I need to see you in a closed door conference room meeting now"

And of course, I am all resigned, this is the moment, there has been a reorg, I'm about to get excessed, riffed, chopped, axed, whatever you want to call it. And of course I was due to go on vacation next week too. I'm Irish so bad luck I know, and apparently I'm due.

So despondent I walk into the conference room to hear my fate and find out how much severance i'll get (its usually a week per year).

And I discover, yes my fear of a reorg is totally right. Things are being shifted and condensed. And as a result of this reorg my current position is gone, and my fate is,....

to be promoted and get a 15% salary increase (back dated to start of June)

.....

so an interesting day : )
and a 15% increase thats a significant change in take home -that's not a token raise :)

so maybe I will by one of those M1 SoCOms now :)

and I also realized my bosses are a bit sadistic because they knew this was coming but didn't say a word...

Congrats that is great news an I am very happy for you.

Take the better half out for dinner to celebrate.

My company was just sold last month and we are going through the merger planning right now, and I thank goodness that I am a Direct charge and not an overhead charge. Those that are on overhead are going to get slashed pretty hard and they are worried about it.

My first job out of school was with a large aerospace company in southern CA. Soon after I started, the company announced some huge layoffs. So I was at a test site working away when my boss came in and closed the door behind him and asked if he could talk to me. Uh-oh - here it comes. I've been on the job six months, I've got a infant daughter, I spent too much time in school and now things are just starting to go well, but now I'm going to be laid off with two weeks of pay. So my boss gets serious, and then proceeds to give me my annual review and a nice raise. I stammered that I thought I was going to get laid off, and he just laughed.
