Until I am on the road, a refugee from the state I've been raised in and lived in my whole life. It took me nearly 3 decades but Virginia, I'm coming!
I am excited to apply for my driver's license on Saturday and hand in my CHP app on Monday. I already have my Utah permit, but I'll have to wait until next month for my license to be 30 days old, making it valid ID for purchasing a CCW capable handgun.
Anyone know of a good place to take CCW classes, or 1 on 1 instruction in the Petersburg area?

i typically carry as soon as i crossed state lines. when i took the eastern shore route, i pulled over at dixieland, which is labeled 'the south starts here'. i think ill buy a $20 pmag at bass pro, just because i can, regardless of better prices online.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I was glad to hand in my NJ license at the DMV Saturday morning and get it punched "VOID". So far I have encountered many people south of Richmond and in Richmond who share some of my values and think I am definitely in the right place.
Seems to me like Amelia WMA will be where I might get some of my first hunting and fishing in the area, although fishing wise I will need to look into what is available on the James etc as well. After we get a house I would be extremely interested in getting a fishing boat on the Chesapeake but that's going to be at least a few years of savings down the road.
Jim I will definitely be looking at Pro shooters, I won't be able to get a centerfire pistol until my VA license is 30 days old (2 down now!) but already know the exact pistol I am getting and have fired hundreds of rounds through it and have a CrossBreed holster and spare mags already.

Dude! Ya gotta try the smallmouth bass fishing on the James! Lake Anna is fun for largemouth, and be sure and make friends with farmers who have private ponds. Some of the best fishing around is on those private ponds.

Try some of the charter boats on the bay till you get your own, they have specials going, and they're AWESOME!
