Open Carry Texas Tossed From Chili's and Sonic

We talked about this recently with Starbucks and now Chipotle, but these open carry guys are going to get it to where we'll all be eating at home. This isn't helping anything in the court of public opinion and unfortunately is getting national coverage

I didn't really comment about this "group", per se, in the other thread. I was more about supporting our rights regardless of what the media has been brainwashing people to believe. Now... now I have to say that these idiots are really starting to tick me off.

When you get news agency like The Blaze and Daily Beast... it's not really "out there" unless you are looking for it. But when Forbes and ABC start running TV spots and news magazine articles, you are really getting "coverage". These people are absolute idiots doing nothing but getting people worked up and making responsible gun owners look like a bunch of jerks.

Here's an idea. Find a company that is willing to support the fight to preserve the 2nd Amendment instead of randomly ambushing companies. Once you find someone willing to work with you... schedule something. Advertise a scheduled event and really get the word out. This way, you can get more 2A supporters involved AND give the gun fearing people and the people who don't want to be involved a chance to know about it and avoid it that day.

You know, if its one guy/gal... needs to run in a store or get some food and (s)he doesn't want to leave a $3,000 hunting or target rifle in the car because it can't be secured for some reason... no problem; I get it. I had dinner on the way home from the range before and brought my rifle in the restaurant because it could easily be stolen out of the Jeep (soft top). I left it bagged and stuffed it under my feet while we ate. I doubt anyone but gun owners even knew what I had. Rolling into the populous 5 - 10 deep to make a scene is pretty messed up. There are ways of making it work without pushing your views and imposing on a bunch of people that don't want to be around firearms. That makes them as bad as the gun grabbers in my opinion. Forcing your believes on others is wrong, regardless of what side of the isle you're on.

Open Carry Texas Adjusting Its Strategy

Open Carry Texas, a Second Amendment group which is pushing for more liberal gun laws in Texas, says it is backing away from it's most controversial tactic, carrying loaded weapons into businesses.



"Looking back, it has become clear that there is one area in which (w)e have often the most resistance and suffered the largest setbacks, open carry of long arms into private businesses," the group says in a statement.



OCT says it must 'adjust in a way that shines a positive light on our efforts.'



Group members carried loaded AK-47s and AR-15s into a Chipotle restaurant in suburban Dallas last weekend, prompting the Denver-based chain to ban all weapons in all of its outlets. Starbucks and Smashburger have also asked the group to leave their guns at home.



In addition, a teenager in San Antonio was arrested earlier this year during a confrontation with police as he was carrying a loaded rifle down a street near Jefferson High School.



OCT says from now on, it will not carry long guns into businesses, and will focus its actions on 'businesses which are Second Amendment Friendly.'



The group says it will also notify police before it stages any public events, and will carry signs telling people who they are and why they are carrying weapons.



The group seeks to expand the places where firearms can be carried in Texas, and notify people of their right to carry weapons in certain public places.

This is what I have said several times. If you want to go out to eat and OC as a group (especially with long guns)...cool...I wanna come too....call ahead, get permission...if it is going to cause commotion, bring a sign describing it as an OC event. Don't just show up unannounced with rifles, that can and likely will cause reasonable panic especially with the long guns being so visible.

I am all for OC and for the second amendment. I am also all about property rights too.
