You know, Pay-Radio is great and all that, but I would like something that has airwaves. All personal choice mind you, but something about Kitty Wells coming out of a tinny-sounding AM radio just makes me think of my childhood.

As to "smelling funny" SHMIV... what's wrong brotha? The smell of Menthol Kools, and Meth don't appeal? HAHAHAH

I struggled with the idea of pay-radio (would you believe that satellite radio has commercials? That discovery caused a good bit of grumbling on my part! ), but I can end up spending a few days in areas with no cell service, the only FM station features local folk discussing local gossip (which consists of a lot of inside jokes), and the only thing I can pull in on AM is an electric fence. When I am in such a place, I'm glad for the overpriced service provided by Sirius/XM.

Lol, it ain't just just the odor of meth and menthol that pulls the butter off my biscuit, incidentally. Add truck stop parking lot and cheap perfume to that. What's wrong with the parking lot? Well, consider that one may not feel like walking up to the building when they awaken in the middle of the night...

Sirius/XM has commercials on their talk stations because they pull them directly off the airwaves. I haven't found commercials on any of the music stations that I listen to.

S/XM is also a good way to be tracked. If the SHTF payradio will be the first thing to go followed very closely by the cell phone.

Didn't know that about talk radio. Not surprised. Despite the fact that my last several rides have been pay-radio capable, I've never seen any reason to pay for radio when there's oodlin's of it out there for free. I never listen to it anyway unless I just need noise to stay awake. Can't hear well enough to discern the words (although I can hear and appreciate [some of] the music), so I never know the artist or the words. Makes it hard to be really into music. Also means I wouldn't know how to pick what music I wanted to hear (which I assume is the reason for pay radio) if I decided to try. Back when I was driving Tahoes, I also opted out of the Encore service GM puts on their vehicles on the grounds that (1) I can continue to look after my own self just as I have for the last 40-50 years, and (2) Even though I don't do anything that's illegal or that I ought to be ashamed of, I don't like the idea of having somebody keep track of where I'm at or going. If I want somebody to know, I'll tell them. Otherwise, it's none of their cotton'-pickin' business.

Besides, if they play a song you don't like on the radio, (1) it only lasts a few minutes, and (2) you can turn it off/down for that long.

I swear, if people are that incapable of tolerating a little irritating background noise, t'aint no wonder the divorce rate has risen so high.

Rather than shell out good money for talk radio to avoid such a terrible imposition, I'd invoke my favorite tautology:

"IF IT DOESN'T MATTER, IT DOESN'T MATTER."

We got spoiled again after George Jones asked "Whose gonna fill their shoes" and some good talent answered. Sadly, the pendulum has swung back the other way, but sooner or later it will swing back again. Even now a few good songs like Cowboys and Angels or Like Jesus does crack through and remind us that all is not yet dead, even though some of this country/rap cr@p almost makes me wish I was.

I have to say that Zac Brown still writes some incredibly profound music. As for the Luke Bryan's, Jason Aldeens, and Taylor Swifts. They can go bye bye

Not a fan of Zac Brown.... he reminds me of Jimmy Buffett, and I'm not overly fond of Buffett.

I was checking out Willie's Roadhouse on S/XM last night. They played two trucking songs, back to back. I got all excited; I love the old truckin songs. A couple of hours later, though, I had to change it. Too many weepy songs in a row. One more, and I'd have been checking in to the next seedy no-tell motel in Texas with a gallon of bourbon, a shot glass, and a carton of cigs, just on principle. GF would have had to finish this run by herself.

I'm not terribly concerned with the Satellite tracking with my pay radio. Damn truck already has that feature. As does the phone. The satellite is necessary for local weather updates, which can be a lifesaver in this line of work. That's how I knew about the twisters a few weeks ago.

Yes that is one of the things bad with the sirius radio, it's not commercial free like they claim it is. I have one in our Odyssey and a Sportster radio that I used to use in my work van. We all should've really known that with this it wouldn't stay commercial free forever, someone has to help pay for those satellites!

Zac Browm has a couple Jimmy Buffet esque songs and those are the ones you hear the most that's for sure but if you listen to one of his albums you'll see that 90% of what he puts out is his own sound

I hear a few of his good songs on the radio but mostly you hear his more pop sounding songs. The cool thing about him is he is self produced so he doesn't put out what the record companies tell him to but what he wants
