BREAKING: Chipolte says no to guns

Post by Rualert »

From a Florida new article:
BREAKING: Chipolte says no to guns
By Lee Williams, Herald-Tribune
/ Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Lee's note: This just arrived via the AP wire. It's not clear whether the restaurant chain is banning open carry and concealed carry, or just open carry.

By CANDICE CHOI

AP Food Industry Writer

NEW YORK — Chipotle is asking customers not to bring guns into its stores after it says gun rights advocates recently brought military-style assault rifles chipolteinto one of its restaurants.

The Denver-based company notes that it has traditionally complied with local laws regarding open and concealed firearms.

But in a statement Monday, the company said that "the display of firearms in our restaurants has now created an environment that is potentially intimidating or uncomfortable for many of our customers."

A Chipotle spokesman didn't immediately respond when asked if it was an outright ban.

Last year, Starbucks told customers that guns were no longer welcome in its cafes after it had to close a store to avoid a demonstration by gun rights advocates. The Seattle-based coffee chain stopped short of a ban.

Now I have personally carried both open, and concealed in our local Chipotle restaurants, and never had anyone even look at me funny. Guess it just takes one azz hat to walk in with a scary rifle (Sorry, but why would you take your rifle in the restaurant anyway) and this kind of crap starts.

Here's my issue - when you walk into a public place JUST to get attention and to "MAKE A POINT CUZ I CAN!" you are doing the entire movement a disservice. Frankly, if your maturity level is one where you MUST BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION and you think it's funny to "scare the sheeple", then you should not own a firearm. Period.

@mindflayer - I agree. Especially when you do it with Ar-15s etc.
I've openly worn a pistol into the chipolte in Sterling without a hassle but because it was matter of fact, I was there to get a Burrito not to rub it in the anti-gunners face while they enjoyed their meal.
I've also wondered at the need to carry your rifle everywhere in the suburbs, I find it hard to believe that a rifle is the best self defense choice for a downtown area.

Agreed, isn't your pistol there so you can get back to your rifle? No need to carry it everywhere unless your over there in the sand pit, then I fully agree, keep your rifle with you 24X7.

I don't care I'll carry everywhere until someone asks to me to remove it, and then ask them if they can guarantee my safety. But if chipotle wants to be that way they can go the way of starbucks and chick-a-filet in my book and lose my patronage.

I just think this is BS because literally just this weekend they made a statement saying "we simply follow local laws and will continue to do so". Apparently the anti groups are much more threatening that we are.

And I still hate people that do that crap with assault rifles. Bunch of dip$hits.

I don't beleive in intentionally scaring people... but in stark contrast to what I have seen in this thread so far, I would like to say that it is my Constitutional Right to carry whatever "Arms" I see fit to protect myself, wherever and whenever I see fit (respecting private property rights of course).

I mean, come on guys. In some states, like Maryland, you can only OC a rifle. So if you can't get a permit to CC, can't OC a handgun and rifle OC is your only option, what is a law abiding person to do? I sure as heck don't deserve to be at more risk because all I have is a rifle or all I can carry is a rifle.

The second amendment doesn't say I can carry arms as long as other people aren't scared. And people don't have a Constitutional Right to feel safe or to not be afraid of an inanimate object or the otherwise law abiding citizen carrying said rifle.

Just because cowards and uneducated are complaining, that doesn't seem detrimental to the fight to keep my Second Amendment Rights alive and well. In fact, in my opinion, OC'ing with a rifle frequently and without incident is the only thing that will offset or undo the impact that the media has. Today, the only exposure most non-shooters have to AR's or shotguns is when they hear about "another mass shooting" on TV.

See, if you wimp out on the OC of a rifle... IMHO, that is detrimental to the cause. You give the left even a little bit and they will be right there to say "see, even gun owners say you don't need to carry a gun in public", then strip what's left of our rights away.

You don't want to carry a rifle for protection... fine, don't. But don't tell me I can't or shouldn't.

What Marc said... that pretty much covers my view on it.

But, I would also agree that choosing an tac'ed out AR-15 out of your vast arsenal, just to make a statement, so you can maybe make a hippy wet himself, or rile up a high strung liberal, does more harm than good.

I'd like to feel like a can carry whatever tool for self protection that I see fit, but it would appear that some folks have forgotten that their guns are tools, and treat them as toys. And that only gives the anti gun crowd more ammo against us.

Not saying you can't or shouldnt... But it sure doesn't help. And when our rights are restricted more and more like this and you wonder why, as crappy as it is to admit, it's stuff like this

Meh.

Chipotle is a business. Businesses that big need PR personnel. Their PR personnel are smart enough to acknowledge and stay neutral, hence the "we simply follow local laws and will continue to do so."

I agree that carrying a tacticool, tricked out [rifle platform of your choice] is counterproductive to the cause. A key tool to educating and informing those not in the know about gun rights (and the crap the antis produce) is to create an environment that's not overwhelming or threatening to the average person. Converging on a restaurant for Burrito Bowls with more firepower than a Marine Corps fire team tends to hamper that.

Also, consider the source. The AP can suck it, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll continue to carry in Chipotle. And Starbucks. And Buffalo Wild Wings (yup, them too)

No sign to me = carry on. Now if they are fool enough to put up a sign....well I would not want to be there regardless as they have just said "please rob us".

I have been there....IMO their food is slightly better than Taco Bell, but only a little. Now if we can get some taco cabanas up here that would be something to get excited about.

Ironically my taste buds and lower GI tract said "no" to Chipotle after my first and last time there.

I don't even go to Chipotle anymore, as I figured out that the one thing my wife likes from there can be made in my kitchen pretty easily.

Hell, I wouldn't even go to BWW of my own volition, were there not a mandatory social function there next week.

It's all a matter of location. If the stores are in a place full of sheep, yes they will piss their pants and shelter in place. Yet other areas, where people are still aware, they won't give it a second look. If the company wants to do this then so be it, although it does just goes to show the bigotry and hypocrisy in this country to where a constitutional right can be denied but yet if a company expresses their religious beliefs they get demonized. They want to make themselves and their customers targets for crime then let them do so but I am certain that if something does start happening in the stores, the first blame will be because of the guns!

Uh-oh, how did this happen? I wonder where it will happen next?

http://www.beaufortobserver.net/Article ... bbery.html

The Pit restaurant in Durham left its patrons defenseless while an armed robbery too place Sunday (5-18-14). The reason staff and employees were defenseless was because the owner of the restaurant prohibits weapons in his establishment. As a result concealed carry, or open carry, weapons owners could have been in a position to protect themselves and others from the criminals.

SOB!!!!!! Lost my whole post!!!!!

Short version now.
'In your face' tactics are bad. Be subtle. Gather at a local country type store where game is checked in. Gather at my shop in Blackwell. May even need them there since it's getting crazy there again.
Don't go to Wally World to set up in the arking lot, or it's sporting goods section. Do it on a front lawn somewhere.
Pick our fights where we have the high ground, and Boomie's idiots aren't even wanted. Let them come to us on our ground, not theirs.

That said, I saw nothing wrong with the post some time ago about Mark showing somebody a firearm in a parking lot. That was normal, whereas a protest isn't.

I lost mine, too; and a rare old rant it was. We must have tried to post simultaneously. I've had that happen before. I basically said the same. Groups of people toting rifles around inside a restaurant is just plain stupid.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

True. Maybe looks hurt them in this case. They almost look like street thugs. Not that I'm one to talk about looks. I look worse than them.
