Got a New Rifle

Post by MarcSpaz »

Just picked up a Sig Sauer 716 Patrol AR-10 Battle Rifle. This rifle is super light for an AR-10. Can't wait to take it to the range.

Nice rifle. I sort of looked at them a year or so back when I got my SIG 566R. I didn't even know SIG made these until I got to researching the "R". I decided then that if I got another .308 rifle, it would be a SIG.

I am curious about how the PMAGS work.

Thanks guys...

It came with a 20 round PMAG. There is a little slop with the mag inserted. I only stuffed empties in it though. Once some spring pressure is on it, I'd expect that it won't be noticeable. As long as there are no feed problems, I use it.

The DPMS mags fit really well. Nice and snug with little to no play. I'm likely going to buy more of the metal mags since I only have 3 at the moment.

beautiful!

So, it has an ambi mag release but not the safety or bolt catch/release? Seems like if SIG were to go through the trouble of putting that ambi mag that they would go true ambi with the safety and bolt release.

They offer it as an option via a parts kit. Don't know if they have an assembled ambi version. the 516 is the same way. I am good with it either way.

very nice... I've had mine for a couple of months now. A much smoother shooter than most people report in other forums. shot side by side with my buddy's Scar and I think has no more recoil... Got optics yet?

Funny this subject should come up. Hasn't been but a day or two since the Ruger SR 762 caught my eye. Was thinking about one to go with an SR 556. Sort of a big brother-little brother pair like the Mini 14 and the Mini 30. Anybody got any input on the Ruger SR 762?

Thanks! They are a blast, aren't they. I hit a 2" bullseye with the BUIS at 100 yards all day long. There is such little recoils compared to my SASS.

No optics yet. I have been having other obligations tying up my cash lately. I am thinking either an HHS 1 or a VCOG. I'm leaning toward the EOTech until the price drops on the VCOG. $2,400 seems a bit high for my budget, but I may not feel that way about it once I have one in my hands. LOL

I don't own one, but I looked at one myself. I love Ruger. I like supporting American companies too. I would put them very, very close to Sig quality with regard to the more expensive product lines. I went with Sig because our military has chosen many Sig weapons to send down range, the Sig is shorter overall and I couldn't find any info on the Ruger trigger.

The Ruger does weigh 1 lbs less and has the same barrel specs. I general, I think the Ruger would be a good choice.

The Ruger has good reviews, but it is not a free floating barrel. I do like the thinner rail system on the Ruger.

After flirting with the idea of buying a POF or LWRC for my 308, I think my wallet will direct me to the the Sig.

Marc, where do you shoot it out to 100 yards?

I go to Range82. Lee is the owner. Great guy and a good place to shoot. There are very few members since it is used during the day for gov contracts. The upside is exclusive use. There is never a wait for lanes on Saturday's and is you are good with "after core hours" shooting during the week, most days there may only be 1 or 2 other people there.

As most of you know, I got a new AR10 a couple months ago. I made some subtle changes. Nothing major, but I think I like this look a lot more.

I switch my Sig 716 away from a Patrol / Battle Rifle configuration more toward a Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)

This is what it looks like after the mods...
