QUEER BEER: Beer Co.s Boycott St. Paddy’s Parades
Sam Adams, Heineken and Guinness. Well, I never liked Guinness anyway, but I frequently have drunk Sam Adams and Heinekin when I couldn’t get a Warsteiner or a decent craft beer. Now they just won’t taste quite right anymore.
“Guinness announced Sunday that it would withdraw its support for New York City’s parade, saying it was an “advocate for equality for all.””
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! WHAT RUNAWAY, MINDLESS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!
Since when does “advocating equality for all” require you to allow some minority splinter group to take over your function and turn it into a pep rally for THEIR cause? This is just beyond ridiculous. I’m not against tolerance for the LGBT community. But I’m against any group that seeks to take over someone else’s function and use it for their own purposes. I’d feel the same way if it was the TEA party or the NRA trying to carry THEIR signs in the St. Paddy’s day parade. I guess it’s everybody’s right to BE a PITA, but it’s not everybody else’s duty to put up with it.

Soooo, the community in question doesn't have a parade of their own? No venue for self promotion? They're being stifled out of existence? They need mayors and sponsors to speak up for them or they won't be heard?

Why the hell do these gay rights activists feel the need to push their agenda at a St. Patrick's Day parade anyways? Why can't they just join in to celebrate as people and leave it at that for one day out of the year? I couldn't care less about another person's lifestyle choices but I'm sick of hearing about them every time I turn around.

Exactly. All my life the deal has been that "Everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's day"
So why is it all of a sudden that "everybody has to be gay on St Patrick's day"?

Eh, I've gotten pretty good at making my own, but I (did) enjoy the occasional Guinness draught.
Re: QUEER BEER: Beer Co.s Boycott St. Paddy’s Parades
Heineken sucks. No loss there.
Sam Adams I like, but didn't drink much. Yuengling is cheaper.
Guinness was a rare treat that I liked a lot.
Used to get a beer from a small brewer up in Wisconsin called Spotted Cow. Really nice beer. Then the woman who owns it came out for bucket-head.
I REALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SCREW WITH MY DRINKING HABITS!

I'm with you on this one Dorm. I'm all for supporting peoples rights, but let's use the right forum.
The only chance of me having a problem with them being asked not to wear signs would be if others were allowed to use it as a platform, and excluding the LGBT groups.
In general, its a holiday parade, not a political or civil rights parade. Just leave it alone and stick to making beer.

The problem is that most people are accecpting and/or tolerant of gays at this point, which means their no longer the center of attention. So they ram it down everybodys throat to stay relevant. I could care les what they do myself but I see it just like the anti's, if they dont have a reason to be in the headlines, then they will CREATE one! Its air and print time they want, not equality.dorminWS wrote:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dmharvey wrote:Why the hell do these gay rights activists feel the need to push their agenda at a St. Patrick's Day parade anyways? I won't stop drinking Guinness over that. I wish everyone would stop supporting anyhting that has to do with NYC. Even if it is for the wrong reasons, still feels like a win to me...

It's a sad day when people can't even rally around excessive drinking and have a St Paddy's Day parade be a St Paddy's Day parade.

As a gay guy I'd like to chime in, I have no idea why they want to bother raising a gay banner here. They have their own parade and can be open anywhere they choose at anytime so why bother? Mabey I don't get it because I've always been a "it's my business" kind of gay and not a "showy" type but I really don't get this whole situation.
Well their loss, i'll drink the beers anyways. I'm usually more drunk than gay on st. paddys day anyway! XD

I drank Heineken once. Then I walked into the ladies room. Never again did I drink that.Swampman wrote:Heineken sucks. No loss there.

Sam Adams it's ok not my favorite beer (That falls to Texas and Shiner Bock)
Guinness I drink maybe 1 a year so that is not hard at all for me to stop.
I grew out of my hometown brew a long time ago. Sierra Nevada is super popular where I grew up (Northern Calie) mainly because the main brewery is 30 miles from my home town. They have some good brews but I am not much of a pale ale guy.

Did you hear about Sierra Nevada's new brewery in NC? I'm expecting it to be much easier to find more than just Pale Ale and Torpedo on the east coast when they get rolling this spring.

St. Patrick, himself, would likely be against the massive drinking done in his name, against the gay pride that wants to seep into the parades given in his name, and generally against all modern celebrations of St.Patrick's day.

You know what? (shrugs) Screwit...
Nothing surprises me in this world anymore.
At this time, I'm surrounded by "Showboaters", not "Go-toters". People talk, but rarely walk. So be it in business, guv'mint, or life.
Making sure to surround myself with "Go-Toters" is the main goal. People who can tote that barge, lift that bail, and follow the adage:
"IT AIN'T BRAGGIN', IF YOU CAN DO IT!"
