For those of you too young to remember the first Cold War

Post by OakRidgeStars »

It's coming back again. Might be time to find one of those old houses with the bomb shelter in the basement.

That is what I am afraid of. Our president is so inept that we will be lucky just to survive this.

This to my historical mind has echoes of a time long past trying to rise again.

Anyone who remembers the cold war will remember it wasn't all that "cold". It was pretty darn obvious what was happening.

Putin is an old Communist party hard liner, just like the CCCP members that came before him. Ronald Reagan put the Russian bear to bed and now Obama is waking him up. No doubt that the Eastern Europeans will have it far worse than we will.

For now.

I doesn't help when Russia propaganda is highlighting Russian Naval ships docked in Havana. Trying to flex your muscle to the world while making the US nervous is a bad idea. Just because Obama is a little gun shy, that doesn't mean Congress and the DOD are just gonna sit on their duffs and watch the rockets fly.

you hear about the Russian Navy in Cuba and the Iranian Navy headed to our boarders, but you don't hear about what our Navy is doing. All I can say is I only see 1 aircraft carrier in port at Norfolk Naval base. I go across the Hampton Roads bridge tunnel each morning to work. Normally there are more in dock. Also traffic was like nothing going to work this morning. So that means a lot of Naval personnell are not on the roads.

I don't suppose one of ours will make a port call at Sevastopol like the Russkies did in Cuba, do you?

And remember that Russia put nuclear missiles in Cuba in 2011. I'm way too close to DC...

What I really want to know is this...

Now that Russia and their allies are knocking at out backdoor, posturing for a domestic US assault, how do all of you feel about our military training for urban combat in mock US cities, the militarization of local police, and DHS/Federal Law Enforcement stacking up on ammo and MRAP's?

And for the gun grabbers... when they do show up, which one of us Armed Citizens are you going to try to hide behind?

Remember boys and girls, civilians are victims of circumstance. Citizens forcefully defend themselves against circumstance.

You know the bad thing about it? I find that I am a bigger fan of Putin than I am of our own emperor.

I'm STILL against the militarization of the LAW...ENFORCEMENT!

They're not the MILITARY! They're to enforce the peace in civilized society...

You want a defense against foreigners? YAMAMOTO! "Behind every blade of grass is a rifle!"

Wanna f'ckup an invader? Make them UNSURE! Guerilla warfare baby! Tearing us a new azzh*le since 1969! Turnabout is fair play.

All I need is a high school jacket, I got the furry hat, and ak to stand on, and yell "WOLVERINES!"

The last 60 seconds of that video really sum it up.

Rev, I love that movie. It was the only decent thing Patrick Swayze ever made. And, yea, I grew up thinking... no, believing that I was going to fight Russians on our own land someday. Somewhere in the haze of life I forgot about that, but today is a bitter reminder.

Yep. The Duma would be a marked improvement over Congress as well these days.

I feel like it's the build-up for a police state. What better excuse than a "war" to activate it 100%?

This is just a thought I have...

As much as I agree that we need to keep the government in check to prevent them from taking power away from the people, not everything they do is an intentional step in that direction.

Regardless of how crappy it sounds, if/when our enemies hit the beaches, parachute into flyover country or comes across a neighboring border, it will be because out defense agencies missed it. That mean law enforcement will likely be the first to notice and the first line of defense. The "people" won't know until the EBS kicks off, and that will take some time as the alphabet against get word out.

I'm not saying I want our police using military style force and weapons against citizens, but I sure as hell don't have a problem with them using it against our enemies. And today, right now.... right this very moment, our enemies are minutes away from being state-side and are looking for an excuse to come on in.

What did I miss? Is there a Star-Trek transporter in the Ukraine that's hooked up straight to Fort Knox or something? Why is it suddenly more likely the USA will be invaded?

HMM.... maybe we do need those UN election monitors after all. Problem is, they're likely to be sympathetic with the Obamunists that are stealing the election.
