Best 9mm or .40 carbine?

Post by zimm17 »

I'm looking for my next purchase and I want a 9mm or .40s&w carbine for blasting targets on a private 80yrd range. .223 and .300 blackout are pricy for plinking and .22 is too wimpy for ringing steel targets.

I don't want cheap, I like quality I can appreciate (no hi point, etc)
I reload .40, but tempted to go 9mm and buy bulk cheap ammo, getting tired of picking up brass at the range
I can't do beretta, had a bad experience with a .32 tomcat and won't own another....
I have an eotech ready for it.

I'm even thinking about SBR, but 16" barrel lets me travel interstate
Thoughts?

I've read about issues with the JR. I just discovered the JP GMR-13 that looks awesome. It's pricey though…
But back to the JR.. it's available in .40 which I already have the reloading setup and glock mags for.

I own a Sub2k from Kel-tec that uses Glock 9mm mags which par up with my Glock 19... at a 16" bbl? They come out the end at .357 velocities... I have very good accuracy with mine...

and it fits in a brief case/laptop bag when folded...

There's ya' "Surprise".

I'm a fan of the Sub2k as well and that would have been my first recommendation if the OP didn't mention putting an optic on it.

Masterpiece arms has a 16" carbine in 9 and 45 based of a mac 10 receiver, could also look at an Aero Survival Rifle, in 9/40/45 Glock mags. Both are pricey, relative to a high point or Keltec, but have several redeeming qualities. Heard some people talk about the earlier JR's coming apart during use, curious if the later models are improved at all.

Kel-Tec Sub-2K with a Red Lion rail fore-end and quality (at least Primary Arms or Bushnell) red dot. It's the obvious answer. Finding one isn't hard...finding one at a reasonable price is hard.

I have a Ruger PC-9 carbine. It's built like a tank and takes pistol mags. However, they don't make them anymore.

I didn't like my Beretta Tomcat either, but if I were to buy a 9mm carbine now I'd get a Storm.
