We are ready, ladies and gents. DorminWS gets the championship award for the planets MOST SECURELY boxed package. It took me half an hour to open the box!

PM sent Dave.

I learned that AK's get build, not just assembled. Interesting process to say the least. Wife and I were just spectators. She even caused a 'Whew' moment too. :bangin:
All that aside, even she enjoyed it.

I did warn you. It was a little heavy and had fairly sharp edges, and I was afraid it would tear out of the box before it got to you.

But the real reason for this post is so I can suggest that maybe the next thing you ought to build for yourself is a knife. :friends:

Big thanks to the endless generosity of SafariDave in hosting this. We used his tools plus a bunch of his materials in doing this. It was a long day but I learned a ton.

Thanks to dorminWS for the tank too. That thing was heavy duty and I am sure it cost a bunch to build and ship.

The project continues... check out my MAK-90 rebuild thread to get filled in on this "phoenix" rebuild.

Honestly, it was pretty good that there weren't more than the three of us. Safaridave even had a lot of work done beforehand, it was just atomicpunk and myself. It would no doubt go faster the next time though, due to experience. I'm working on having more tools available, too.

LOL yeah. One set of stations mean that 2 or 3 is the max I can handle. Plus, working on your heat treated receivers, 762, added some time just due to the toughness of the metal. No doubt those are super durable weapons with those.

Yeah, those are some dang good receivers. They are a little long, though. I fount that out when I went to put the dust cover on. It did get all assembled, I just haven't taken any pics yet. That stock went together WAY differently than I thought it would. The dust cover needed a bead on the back of it to ensure a secure fit; I didn't have a welder to put a bead on so JB weld worked. It was just to take up extra space and it's not critical so the epoxy will suffice. If/when it breaks off then I'll get it welded.

Did you try just bending the rear lip of the top cover? It may be too thick to bend, but its worth a try. The Romanian G rifles top covers were bendable and I had to do that on my first build.
On another note... DAMN YOU 762! You put the underfolder bug in me. I was going back and forth as to what my next build was gonna be and you made me go with a polish underfold. Now my wife is going to divorce me for not having enough room in the safe and its all your fault.

Anyone know if you still need to heat treat milled recievers? I know it defeats the purpose of the DIY w/o paperwork concept, but it turns out I have an original Tula kit for a milled reciever... I found someone online that sells the recievers for 350, but all the instructions I see are for stamped kits. Will try to have something more standard for the next BP.

Not having worked milled recievers before, my guess is no, you do not have to have them heat treated. The metal on milled ones is super thick and will not egg out due to recoil shock on the hammer/trigger holes. Ask the guy you are buying your receiver from, though... this is just a guess.

Correction: you may need to heat treat the ejector only... again just guessing.
