Ranges in North VA?

Post by mauler88 »

Hi just moved here to North of VA Reston Area. can anyone hook me up with a range that don't cost $1200 a year? I don't mind driving a little within 60 miles. I need a range with a 100 yard lane longer would be even better. thanks i hate to be in VA and not be able to shoot my rifles.

check out Northern Virginia Gun Club. It's in King George County, about 30 minutes from the Route 17 exit (Warrenton Road) on I-95.

there's IWLA (isaac walton league of america) in centreville. also fairfax rod and gun club in manassas va.

clark brothers has an outdoor range but that's maybe 100 yards max. they're located on rte29 at the intersection with rte17, opal virginia i believe. basically warrenton.

there's also the phelps wildlife refuge in remington or summerduck virginia. there's some stuff on the DGIF website about it. sight in only, and the range is open certain times of the year.

There's also an Izaak Walton League in Loudoun County. It has a 100 yard rifle/pistol range and a skeet range. They're always welcoming new members.

If you're looking for hunting as well, consider National Sportsmans Association, a hunting club at http://www.nsa-inc.com/. They have 2 or 3 outdoor ranges. It's not cheap, especially the first year because of the initiation fee but it's a good hunting club. It's very good if you have limited free time, because there are no required work days. I've been a member off and on for several years.

I was extremely impressed with Silver Eagle's range capacity, setup, shooting conditions, and staff during my first visit there earlier this week. Handgun selection in the shop section is less impressive. Just off the Louden Co. Parkway slightly north of Waxpool Road.

Hey...

There is Blue Ridge Arsenal (Fairfax by 50 and 28). This is a good place to shoot, have rentals/sales, onsite armorer, instruction. They are going to update their facility in the next couple of months to become completely state of the art. $25 to shoot / annual memberships available.

There is also Silver Eagle Group (Ashburn by Loudoun Cnty Pkwy and Waxpool). This is a state of the art facility with all of the same features as Blue Ridge. Depending on where you live in Reston, this is probably the closer. $35 to shoot / annual memberships available.

I heard IWLA Mentioned, there is a Leesburg chapter off of Rt15. Outdoor - no pro shop - have to be a member ($300 a year), but they have a ton of other activities on the property (skeet, trap, bow range, fishing, camping, etc.)

Also, the NRA has a range right in Fairfax off of 50/66. Never shot there, but heard it is very nice.

All of them and more can be found by going to the "RESOURCES" section on http://www.rangelog.com.
