"Where were you?"
So the VCDL sends out an e-mail about the rally saying tht 400-600 people showed up, and they were disappointing numbers based on past rallies.
then asked "Where were you?"
Well, considering I've been carrying the water for the other 26k people who receive the friggin' alerts, and the other 6k members who didn't show up for about 10+ years if not longer than I've been doing this, and there isn't any voting of whose an "executive member", and this is an all volunteer force...
I chose to change my flat tire on my car, and drive "The Woman" to the cardiologist to check to see if that operation she had in December that almost killed her caused congential heart failure (Which it did).
So as to where was I? Handling business that I felt more important.
I don't dislike the VCDL, but I'm getting kinda tired of the snooty attitudes of the executive members to the volunteers, and those who ask "questions". YOU represent ME! I volunteer, and believe the same things, but stop acting like you're the "Gods of Pro Gun". Everyone who hates gun control but cannot make every event isn't the villain. It's those slacktastic bastages who love guns, but are not a member WHATSOEVER to ANY organization, nor write a letter, nor make a call, nor question an elected official...
Wanna set me off? Question my choices. Especially if you're not privy to the intricate details of my life. I ain't yer bitch, so get the f'ck over it. The NRA pulls that same crap, it's why it irks me as well.

Turnout was much larger last year, during the height of the post-Newtown panic. While the hysteria has died down, in the Commonwealth the danger to our rights is even greater than it was a year ago thanks to the results of the recent election. So I hope that those who couldn't make it to the Lobby Day will take an hour to communicate with their representatives.

I chose to spend the day with my daughter out in the woods and we had a great day. I let her shoot till her sholder was starting to hurt. We set the steel spinning target out at 50 yards and she had it spinning on the first shot. Damn proud of her shooting. Yeap that is where I was, and that timespent with my daughter was very important to me.

Re: "Where were you?"
I doubt I'll ever make it to one of these shindigs, MLk day is one of my busiest work days plus it's really far for a round trip from Roanoke.
That and the wife would kill me if i left her home with four kids all day, two of whom have scarlet fever this week. Plus the house is undergoing major renovations as of last week continuing through this week. Aaand the youngest turned two on the 20th
Maybe one of these years when things calm down some and I have some breathing space with work and family; be as good an excuse as any to head east of Bedford one of these days; the furthest I've gone since moving here.
I wouldn't be too annoyed with the VCDL honchos though; appearances matter and the more people they have the better everything looks.

I had a seriously ill child that was on the edge of hospitalization. I think my family and the RTKABA is better served by me nursing my sick son ( the next generation) back to health more than me taking him out in freezing weather and exposing everyone to whatever we have.
He is better BTW.

Due to health and other issues, I took that one day this week to get some work done so hopefully I can pay the current and late bills I have. I won't even mention the ones coming up on 2-1.

Re: "Where were you?"
Honestly, I have been insulted by a few of those emails myself. Not by what they say, but how the say it.
How about instead of "where were you!?", how about, "Attendance was light. I hope all is well. Please remeber there uis strength in numbers. I hope we can count on you next time."
Same message. More affective.

Re: "Where were you?"
Seems like they put in a lot of effort organizing action that everyone seems to want to have happen. I am sure they understand people have lives and have challenges. Possibly the message was directed at people like me that had no excuse and should have showed up but didnt. I dont think "Where were you" was really directed at a sick person or someone in Wise County, do you?

Re: "Where were you?"
I apologize here, for not attending. I had an engagement with my family that I could not skip. Sorry, that's the way it is.
On the flip side, indignation is not the way to handle the statement by VCDL. VCDL is fighting the good fight, for a constitutional right, and a right we all hold VERY dear. While they need our money, they need our support MUCH more. When they need you to show, you need to try to attend. Of course, daily life is more hectic than ever, but I am sure many could have attended but wanted to think about Colorado going to the bowl, or just drink a beer.
Last year had a big turnout because of the attack at the federal level. The problem is that the war is not won by showing for the big battles, it's won by being there for every battle.
I plan to attend every battle. Unfortunately I don't attend often, due to life. Best have the right attitude, I say. Admit they are right, and do your best to remedy the situation next time you get a chance.

Its not a question of right or wrong, but the condescending attitude. The author can get the same message across without being a dick.

Re: "Where were you?"
I do understand that, but I guess I am trying to say to grow a thicker skin. We do know what was meant, and acting/being hurt turns us into liberals.
Better to tell them this way: sorry I couldn't attend, but your not my mom. Next time just tell me "we NEED you to show in higher numbers!"

I hear you. I really just ignored it for the most part. I just chimed in with Carl to let him know I noticed too.

Re: "Where were you?"
I understand the frustration. VCDL's board is all volunteer I believe so they put in a lot of time to the cause and it shouldn't be much to ask for supporters. I couldn't ask off work twice in one week but last year I went and brought a friend and he went again this year. So I take comfort in that and am calling it a win.

Re: "Where were you?"
I've a very thick hide (can't work with LEO's, and NOT have one).
But when I am treated rudely more often than not? I start to question the relationship. Specifically when I make more effort than others, and have a bunch of people who use this to make themselves "taller" than they are in real life.
I ain't here to impress anyone, or order anyone around. I'm a friggin' NCO of Pro-Gun. Tell me what you need, tell me who is on the team, then go ... the hell...away...

Fair enough. I like that response
VCDL, listening?
FWIW I will redouble my efforts to attend.

Re: "Where were you?"
I'm just speaking for myself here. I'm sure that the message could always be delivered softer. I don't think anyone expects people to skip work, doctors appointments, family time, etc.....but, I don't think there were 10,000 doctors appointments that day. I think the message is meant for the guy who sat at home and didn't feel like driving to Richmond for a few hours. I'm local, so the drive is nothing for me. I probably wouldn't want to drive in from Roanoke or VB either. Did taking the day off put me behind at work a bit? Yep. Was it worth it? Yep..I think so.

Re: "Where were you?"
I disagree with most on this board . "I'm sure that the message could always be delivered softer." It was not strong enough. It was mean to be a wake up call to make us mad. If we do not go out and support the pro gun bills who will. Our lack of support could be the beginning of us losing some gun rights here in Virginia. as my Dad use to say it's tuff love.
