Carrying in a Commercial (CDL) Vehicle

Post by snatale42 »

I got got my CDL-A, I googled and found a never ending supply of opinions about CDL vehicles and firearms but from all the crap I've read it's just that, opinion. Tons of people mainly saying it's illegal but nobody can ever site a source for that statement. Even in my trucking school we we told it's illegal to carry but I can find nothing in the FMCSA that states that which to me means it's just the laws of the state your in. Anybody CDL drivers that know the real deal?

It's not necessarily the federal laws, but the random laws in the various localities (ie NYC, LA, Boston, etc.) make it impractical to carry.

I never researched the federal side; I just know that we drive into Commie infested areas all the time.

I'm in Texas, now, but I'm carrying a load up to Michigan. After that could be any place with a negative outlook in regard to firearms.

Btw, most cdl school's teach you how to make a truck move for about 5 miles without hitting anything. That's it. Prepare to forget almost every thing they taught you, so the company that hires you can train you properly.

Ha. YRC can keep their wiggle wagons. I ain't too keen on pulling doubles or triples; but I reckon it's alright for those that don't mind it.

No, nothing yet. The schools instructors have some leads for me but they seem to pay BAD! I get that I'm new and I'll eat crap for a year or so, REALLY bad! (granted I have northeast CDL rates in my head which isn't helping) I'm trying to stay local as I've got a kid on the way. I may look into heavy duty towing as I towed for years, mainly medium duty (box trucks, ambulances, tractors etc). Since a 10speed wasn't new to me and the fact I'm used to driving big articulating vehicles throughout tight city areas (all my driving was in Boston) that it may help me being new to the A world. But honestly I want to use that as a last resort. I found pulling 53's was much easier than towing, especially when it came to backing. I know being a newbie I have no chance with a local no touch gig, so I'm assuming route deliveries or something till my A has some miles on it.

Any leads appreciated ;)
