Finally got to shoot the new M&P Shield

Post by chuckyzfr1 »

Well I finally got the chance to go out and shoot my new S&W M&P Shield 9mm, after anxiously waiting for the past couple of weeks, and I'm glad to say that it ran great, and I really like it! I intentionally fed it cheap ammo to see how it would do, and I'm happy to report that it ate everything I fed it without so much as a hiccup. Decent trigger pull, good feel, reasonable accuracy, and with the 8-round magazine (and finger extension) it is quite comfortable in spite of its diminutive size. If I carry it, I'll almost certainly have the 7-rounder in it, but I did just fine shooting the pistol with that mag as well, just not quite as quick to draw it from concealment. I read somewhere that holsters made for the Sig P239 work well with this gun, and that certainly turned out to be the case, as I managed to score a Don Hume H715 IWB rig (which is my standard CCW rig for everyday carry regardless of the firearm I'm carrying) and it worked just fine. The holster is a smidge bigger than it needs to be, but not enough to be a concern.

I put about 200 rounds through the pistol, and for the first time ever, I would say that I could actually carry this gun competently after such a short familiarizing period. In the past it has taken me as many as a thousand rounds before I was willing to carry a pistol as a CCW. Anyway, I'm definitely pleased with this pistol, and for what I paid for it, it really was a no-brainer to add it to the collection....

My uncle just bought a shield after I suggested he look into it but I haven't even shot one myself! We're heading to shooting tomorrow and I'll put some rounds down range. I got to play with it a little and the thing is pretty much identical to my full size m&p expect the trigger is better! What's with that!?!

The newer M&P Compacts and Pros have the newer trigger. I bought my 9c right before the change and ended up just putting an Apex in there.

Yeah I think S&W took a lot of heat regarding their triggers as the result of the Sigma series...this shield has a very decent trigger imho.....
