It seems that A&E is "Anti-Christian"... I wonder if anyone will notice or there will be outrage regarding that? The entire country is loosing its moral roots in faith, freedom and anyone exercising the right to speak their minds. The erosion began some time ago - It's sad.

I don't think Phil was employing any strategy. That's the way he talks - blunt, honest, and colorful. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 2014 season is almost all filmed, so he will appear in nearly every episode. I suspect that the family is contractually obligated to finish out the season, but as soon as they can get free I expect that they will.

Glenn Beck's web/cable TV network has already offered to host the show in the future.

Here's a link to the GQ interview itself. I think if you read it all, it casts Phil in a much more favorable light even though the writer makes fun of him when he isn't being grudgingly complimentary- unless that's just screwed-up new-age irony.

He chose to speak his mind, as he is free to do, and A&E chose to release him, as they are free to do. Sounds like First Amendment and private business rights were upheld properly. ::shrug:: Reality TV stinks, anyhow.

This has nothing to do with the First Amendment.

Hmm. Such profanity for a magazine called "Gentleman's Quarterly".

Funny huh? Christians feeling the other end of the crusades.

While I fully support phil and the entire family, I just can't in my right mind agree with some people's interpretation of the Bible.

Most of the anti gay sentiment came from the book of leviticus which oddly enough was in the old testament which Jews normally stick to while Christians stick to the new testament. I'd be willing to bet that the same people lambasting homosexuality are guilty of several of the other 70 something things he said God supposedly told him. Ever cut your hair or torn your clothes? You filthy sodomite! Burn in hell!

The book was written by mortals, not God himself. I hate when people blame their ignorance on God. If it is your opinion then have the balls to say it. If you hate gays then you hate gays.

My belief, if people being gay doesn't affect my life, and it doesn't (or anyone's) then I could care less what people do with theirs.

I need to be very clear on something. I am far from a radical Christian. In fact, I hardly ever worship or attend church. However, I am a spiritual person, was brought up Roman Catholic, and believe the lessons in the bible are correct, regardless of my religious beliefs because they independently are wholesome and do no harm.

Also, just because we believe homosexuality is a sin, that doesn't mean that Christians automatically hate gays. It just simply means that we won't condone that lifestyle choice.

And just so no one thinks I am talking out of my ass, I have immediate family members and friends that are gay and I do love them. It's not my place as a man to judge others for their sins. That is between them and their maker. I simply chose not to engage in those activities that go against my beliefs.

Nature did not intend homosexuality, regardless of religion. Humans are the only species that intentionally choose to actively have sex exclusively with the same sex. This does not exist in any other species on earth. By both nature and Christianity, sex is intended for reproduction of a population. The feeling of pleasure is there to help stimulate the drive to repopulate the earth. If nature intended both sexes of a species to interact sexually, both sexes would be capable of both impregnation and being impregnated.

Based on that alone, if everyone was gay, mankind would cease to exist due to the lack of pro-creation. I my opinion, anything that could lead to the end of mankind is a bad thing.

Again, just because I believe homosexuality is wrong, that doesn't mean I dislike homosexuals. But, it seems A&E is acting poorly, discriminating against a group based on beliefs... the very thing they are accusing Phil of.

Really? Wiki? LOL Okay... Sure, bears openly and intentionally have homosexual relationships... How many bears were interviewed in that study? I would loved to read that report.

Creating people in a jar was never intended either bro. That like many other crazy things, is the end result of man's free will. Not a fan of it.

Well, if the Bible is indeed the inspired Word of God, you cannot pick and choose what parts you want to believe, or what sections fit your desired lifestyle, or what interpretation 'feels right'. You cannot choose to believe the 'old or the new' testament - the entire book, from page one verse one to the last verse in Revelations is the inspired Word.

If you do not believe the entire Bible is the inerrant Word of God, well then, all bets are off and you can live in whatever way you wish. But your belief in the scripture does not makes it either true or untrue. If it is the inspired Word of God, it stands alone; beyond judgment by men, and measured against itself and itself alone.

One of my favorite verses is 1 Corinthians 1:18, 19:
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” (ESV)

Basically, to those existing without Christ, then the "word of the cross" will simply not make any sense. Ponder that for a while.

As far as Christians taking their stance on homosexuality from the Old Testament- well, not entirely.

Matthew 19:4-7, ((Jesus said)):
4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” ((God's design is male and female))

Romans 1:18-28
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

1 Cor 6:9

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Tim 1:9
8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

I saved the best two for last, because they contain some things that make you go huh. Homosexuality, while explicitly enumerated, is sandwiched right in there with liars, perjurers, sexual immorality, idolatry, drunkeness, thieves, etc. In other words, homosexuality is considered a sin just like all of the other sins that I commit, you commit, and everyone in every church in every country commits Sunday afternoon as soon as they leave the building.

So the big ideas here for me - one, salvation is for the forgiveness of sins, and that includes homosexuality. In many places in scripture, we are instructed to love the sinner and hate the sin; so it is clearly wrong to hate a person because they are homosexual (speck and plank, Matthew 7:3). So while I unequivocally condemn homosexuality as sin, I also unequivocally condemn my own sinful acts equally. I have LGBT friends and family; I love them unconditionally, but that doesnt mean I excuse their sin. Neither do I excuse my own.

Think I'm full of crap? hmm....go back to 1 Corinthians 1:18, 19, and also check out Ephesian 4:18:
18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.

No, it isn't "all good." It, IMO, is wrong. With that said, keep your lifestyle to yourself and I'll keep my opinions about your lifestyle to myself. Open your mouth one time and try to make your lifestyle part of my life and you'll regret you brought your lifestyle to my attention. I don't give a rip what others do. You like having carnal relations with the same gender or animals, go for it. You want a penis and boobs, or not, go for it. I don't have to like or agree with what you choose. I'll treat you with respect and if I don't want to deal with you, you'll never see or hear from me.

I believe it does. We're reaching the point where the word "slave" can not be used in any manner; where questioning data in a fact-based discussion is "bullying"; where saying you don't like something/someone is grounds for being arrested/visited by a 3-letter government agency/expelled. In short, we are being told you must speak only the approved lines.

That all said, it's still a freaking reality TV show. I can not believe it is news. Did we forget about the weapons we sent to Syria, which is still in a civil war, now being used by our enemies? How about the overheating of the Chinese economy and the rumblings about a major correction? How about China's saber rattling over the Senkaku islands? How about the still ever-present Taliban forces in Afghanistan? How about our U6 15% unemployment rate - which is probably higher to 23%? This stuff is news. Some guy on a reality show speaking his mind and getting booted? Bah. This, whatever Miley Cyrus did, whatever Kanye said, whatever some idiot wore to yet another Hollywood self-promotion is not news.</rant_over>

Quite a bit of vitrol for someone who could care less what people do with their lives.

1. The crusades were a reaction to a Muslim invasion of Europe. Look up the Battle of Toulouse. I went to a secular university, my degree was in history, even my most anti-Christian professor said the crusades were a direct result of the Muslim invasion of Europe.

2. The verse Phil quoted are not from the Old Testament. This is where proper exegesis and some knowledge of a historical book would be helpful. Old Testament law ritual law (not cutting hair/wearing clothing of two different fabric types) applied only to the Jewish people living in a Jewish time. Moral is applicable across the board. It is always wrong to bear false witness. It is always wrong to commit adultery. Sodomy...is a term applied only to anal intercourse....not cutting of hair.

3. I hate no one. There are a few people I would rather not have a meal with, but I simply avoid contact. However I will not condone that which is immoral and unnatural. Do I hate them, no. Do I say "go to hell you dirty perv." No. They are sinners in need of a savior just like you, just like me. I should not be forced by anyone to say anything otherwise.

4. I don't care what you think about the bible. That is up to you. If you are not open to a conversation about it, it is not my job to make you thus. I have a right to believe whatever I choose to be reasonable to me. That does not affect you in the least. However, it is disturbing when a person can lose their job because they don't tow the current PC line when asked a question. Just wait. It may not be at your house yet, but soon. Eventually the PC will come and bite you in the butt. Maybe it is not gay marriage, but there is a bend too far for most people. You are on a gun forum...you are on the list of non PC action.

Picture this. The chesterfield Observer (or whatever your local paper) does a special on a new gun range. You are there to pop some off with a friend. They ask you a few questions. It gets printed in the newspaper. Monday morning you come in to no job because your employer does not believe in the right to self defense. Kind of stinks doesn't it.

Sorry I have to call this out. Perhaps in Math class or sociology 101 you could cite, wikipedia. For any class that has a number above 100 that is in a writing field, you cannot. I know this because my husband is taking classes right now, and this was expressly said as an across the board "don't you EVER do this". Now if Wikipedia cites something you can look up the source and use the original source.

You worship science...that is fine with me. I don't think that the rest of us should have to bow down to that altar if we don't want to. Science changes very quickly, what is known fact today is nonsense tomorrow. So what you think science knows and has proven....maybe...maybe not.

No no, I don't "worship" science. I follow it based on fact. Prove to me anything that happened in the Bible. People take that to literally.

To look down on people for what they do, especially something they cannot control is definitely not the God I was taught to talk to.

Science can not explain it all. If science could explain it all it would be a nearly dead field, not one populated by some of the brightest minds in the world. Science is based on theory. You develop a theory and test that theory ad nauseum. With enough positive results it eventually becomes accepted as fact. However (and this is the kicker), it only takes one negative result to disprove a particular theory. That theory can then be, and often is, modified to test for a similar result using slightly different methods.

The bible and the stories it tells, are an exercise in faith. You have to have faith that what was written is at least a fairly accurate representation of past events. Men lie. I question what is written in the bible, but those questions are put to those who have studied the bible and it's history. I take everything I am told into consideration in forming my religious opinions.

This is much the same as science. You consult the people who know what they are talking about and take what they say into consideration. I am a wetland scientist. I still have much to learn about soil science, plant science and hydrology. The science surrounding wetlands has changed considerably since I started in this business 23 years ago.

I still ask questions and get training in wetland science and religion because I don't know it all. In a post some weeks back I was roundly chastised for a position I took. I am looking into the information that was presented in opposition to that view. Someone always knows more than you do. Seek out the best and brightest and don't stop asking questions, about anything. You never know what you'll find out. Curiosity doesn't kill cats, it makes us smarter.

I suppose, but even the smallest bits of science are better than "magic". I'm sorry, magic doesn't exist. One thing scientists do have fairly firm proof on is how the universe was created, and it's after affects are still around today.

Furthermore, for people to sit around and say "homosexuals can't get into heaven" is bs. Who the hell are you to make that call.
