A yankee IMO is a term some foreigners use to describe all Americans. Damn yankees is a term we southerners use to describe anybody who lives north of us - whether its 1 mile or 500... :hysterical:

I guess I too am a Damn Yankee. I'm originally from upstate N.Y.

And then there are the baseball players. I wonder how they figure into this...

Yankee = anyone who currently lives, or primarily resides, and/or wholly identifies with, life above the Mason Dixon Line...
yes, sending a shiver down my spine as it does, that does mean our MD breathern are technically southerners, as they did have some Confederate Calvery come out of the Poolsville MD. area, with many confederates being buried at Monoccacy... their legitimacy to the title has been disputed for over a century with the MD government siding with the North, but with many of those living just accross the river in places like Brunswick and Poolesville being sympathetic to the Confederate cause... etc, etc, ad naseum, until you just can't focus anymore.. :hysterical:

Damm Yankee = (according to the wiki) is a musical comedy with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend set during the 1950s...

sory...got a little time here at work to burn...
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

During the nights in the great “War of Northern Aggression” rebs would meet yanks on neutral ground and exchange letters and family information. They were brothers, fathers, uncles, rebs and yanks. During the day they were “Damn Yankee’s” and meet with this!

Or a bayonet. "Sir, we will give them the bayonet."- General Jackson

And I have to drive home amongst them again today, without a cannon or bayonet!

That's exactly what I told Sgt. Bill when he started building a house down here back in the 90's. I also told him to shut the door behind him when he left jewwseey, but he didn't. So now we have more of them damn yankees.

Those of us born and raised in the north tend to find the term "yankee" to be rather derogatory in the same way that some might be offended to be called "redneck". :)

I am from South Louisiana, Lafayette actually. We considered anything North of Alexandria, LA "Yankee country." Here in Virginia, within a stones throw of the Mason/Dixon line, I get the shakes just thinking about it!

I was born in a southern state and have also lived in a northern state. Call me yankee or redneck, but I prefer the latter and proud of it. I am not a city boy by choice and as soon as I can una$$ this horrible place I'm headed back to the country...Yeeee Haw!!!!

Ketchup is indeed a marker. My dad was a yankee born and raised in Indiana and he put ketchup on everything on his plate at every meal... I use bar-b-que or hot sauce instead.

I put ketchup on scrambled eggs and hamburgers/fries. I have also been known to dip a potato chip in ketchup (though, not lately). Some people go overboard with the ketchup. Mayo is the same way, but I think mayo may be more of a southern thing, eh?
