Marlin Model 60 Jamming problem

I have a Marlin model 60 that's been in my familly fo about 30 years. I cleaned it up & took it to the range only to have it jam on me. I took it to range again and used a different brand of ammo only to have the same result. The problem is it's not ejecting the spent shell or it partially ejecting it. It then tries to load a new round which becomes stuck in theaction with the spent round. Can you or anyone offer any help/advice.

Since this rifle works on a blow back you may need to use higher velocity ammo. The ammo you're shooting simply may not be enough to work the action.

It'a also possible if the gun has had a lot of rounds through it, it may need to have some of the springs replaced to freshen it up..http://www.castbullet.com/misc/m60.htm

Mine does the same thing when it gets really dirty. What I do is clean mine until I think it's clean, then clean it again.

I would love to get some new tips and pointers in general, on any type of handguns and rifles.

I use Birchwood Casey ' Gun Scrubber'. Rather than go through the hassle to disassemble the action, I just hose it down with the gun scrubber trying to get into every nook and cranny I can. It doesn't leave an oily residue in action but breaks up the crud and forces it out. It dries something like brake cleaner.

maybe you need a new extractor? clean it real good first, then if you still have problems replace the extractor and it's spring.

I'd be willing to bet five bucks against a stale donut that it's just dirty.

While you're at it, clean the magazine tube. Both the outer tube, and inside the brass tube that slides into the tube. You'll be AMAZED at the crud that come out of there.

If you still have problems after cleaning it and cleaning it again per Henry, try high-velocity ammo.

i think that both answers are correct...

.22 autos are very finiky about the amount of blowback needed to correctly cycle the action... so clean until the whole house smells like solvent and then go out and shoot a number of high velocity rounds and see what brand works best...inveriabley one type will work better than another for feeding and extraction...accuracy is up to you...

All please feel free to weight in on this with your opinion, But imho, CCi is currently making the best -production- ammo out there for .22LR that is available in any quantity...ithey sound consistant, feel consistant in its recoil, and when examined closley by eye, they seem to have the attention to detail missing i many of types of .22Lr

and yes, the mini-mags are a decent round with some punch...but
I have been using stingers to great effect in both accurancy and ease of use for feeding and extraction, and they have the slick nickel plated cartridges....and CCi recently came out with the "Velocitor"... with a picture of a little red dinosaur on it, that for some reason reminds me of an angry little lizard...

These are great rounds!!...40 grains that gets there in a hurry... in comparision, the stinger is 32 grains, a bit quicker, but not nearly the punch when it hits... these cycle great in in my P22 and Buckmark...and are just so very dead on... the pocketed P22 packed with 10 Stingers or Velocitors is a considerable opponent, or a reassuring companion...

the remington Cyclones are another good round...not as quick, but inexpensive for a high velocity .22 round...and seem to be readily avabile round these parts...

Other folks favorite brand and make of .22LR ??

My bet is on the ammo first, cleaning second. Having said that you might want to check to make sure the extractor isnt fouled with a piece of grit.

Well, I tore it down today & cleaned it real good. I inspected the extractor springs & lubed it up, reassembled it & put in the safe. I'm thinking of taking it to the range tommorow to give it on last try before I pull my hair out.
I had been using CCI Mini-Mags & I tried a few Federal Bulk rounds. Can some of the ammo mentioned by Bluemontglock be purchased at Walmart?

ok, time for me to get in on this one. I also have a Md.#60 Marlin that is shot to hell and back by me my wife my 3 son's and my grandchildren during the course of the year. The reason for the jamb's is powder residue not the ammunition. When the weapon get's dirty it slows the bolt down in it's rearward and then forward movement. Every now and then you have to either take it apart completly or do the best you can like Vahunter.

The worst thing you can do is OIL THE HELL out of it. Any oil left on the bolt will grab unburnt powder and start slowing the action down. I use nothing but Federal bulk pack .22's in all my .22calibre weapons and never have a problem.

Amen to the gospel from Bill...the bottom line being, when i doubt, clean it, and clean it again...

They haev the large bottle of Hopes #9 at dicks..i have begun to just keep half a tupperware full of solvent and just drop the pieces in for an overnight soak...put the top on it, aggitate a couple iof times over the next couple of hours while i am doing any detail work on the grip/mag areas...once you run a brush downt he barrel of soemthing that has been soaking for a while, an drub it all down with some patches...looks clean and polished...juuuust the way i like it... and here is a +1 for arosol REM OIL...
(a little shot behind each ear in the morning and i am set...)

and 40shooter...I do see these rounds at walmart, sometimes...
tey tend to have them more often at Dicks in Sterling, and Loudoun Guns...

IF anyone wanted to go group buy on bulk -upscale- .22 ammo so as not to have to chase it... i am in...and am thinking of the CCi products...
