Fall Camping trip to the COVE.

Post by Snakester »

We enjoyed our trip to The Cove in August so much that today we made reservations to Camp Oct.3-7. Hope to get in alot of Range Time and maybe a little fishing too. We were planning a trip to see The Fall Colors so this will be great to do it all in one trip. If anyone wants to join in for a day or two of Shooting , just come on up. :packin: :packin: :packin:

The Cove was a neat place. I'll definitely go there again sometime, but October is getting into Rockfish season on the Potomac River, and I have a personal vendetta to settle since I was skunked all Spring!

honest question since I've never done it. When you are camping, what do you do with your firearms? Do you keep it locked in your car? I'm talking about when you go fishing or hiking, etc.

I have a lockable steel box that I put in the bed of my pickup. It has 2 chains welded to it and is pad locked when in place. I also have a Fiber Glass Shell that has a lock on both sides. Most of the time we are camping in our Motor Home.
We have installed a lockable firearms storage box in it that is very secure and is almost "completely invisible." It also gives us a place to keep our firearms locked when traveling from state to state .

I was up at the Cove this last Saturday and I took my daughter and a buddy of mine and his daughter and we had a great time up there. I got all of my hunting rifles re-zeroed in (didn't take much as they were still on from last year) and just had fun watching my daughter shoot her new M&P 15/22. She trully loves that rifle. I also got her shooting my Savage .308 deer rifle and almost did not get it back from her as she was laying claim to it for this hunting season.

I vote that we have a VGOF Camp Trip to the Cove Campground in the spring/early summer Shooting, Fishing, and ATVing along with a Bon Fire on Saturday night. Is anyone up for it?

I second the motion! With any luck we may avoid the rain this time.

I'm new to this group and would enjoy a future visit to the Cove. Seems a very reasonable distance from Front Royal.
