They may be selling for as much as $10,000 on eBay, but that hasn't stopped someone deciding that the best thing to do to a gold-coloured iPhone is to shoot it with a high-calibre rifle.

Richard Ryan, a video blogger with an exaggerated presentation style dunked an iPhone 5s into a bowl of water and dropped onto concrete as a series of endurance tests.

But then, mounted into an upright stand, and from some distance, he fired a single bullet from a Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle.

Unsurprisingly, while it survived the initial tests, the bullet killed it completely.

I got insurance on my daughters phones. They said, no matter what happens or what they do, even if it is intentional, it's covered. Might be a good test.

Did you hear the bimbo's on Fox this morning? They showed the video and (here she gets all wide-eyed) said they shot it with a 5 caliber! To be fair, she did catch and correct her mistake. But these are people who have never seen or held a gun. They don't know jack about firearms, so they ought to quit reporting on them.

Last Friday's demand for gold iPhones was insane. I was convinced that this phone was really just a ghost. Because I'd heard about them but I'd never seen one.

Until now.

Never shot an I phone. Never shot a cell phone on purpose. Shot my by accident one day.

Never sit your range bag on the table. Don't clip your phone to the outside of the range bag so you can hear it if you get a call. Don't get so wrapped up in your group size and adjusting the scope that you let the muzzle drift near your range bag/phone because you won't see it through the scope when its just off the end of the muzzle.

The rifle went bang, my son said, "WOW!! That was COOL!!" I asked, 'What was cool?" He replies, "Man, that was the coolest thing I've ever SEEN!!" I again ask, "What was cool?" He says, "I gotta git a picture of that, my friends will love it!!" I again (really again) ask, "What was so cool?" He says, "My friends won't believe me if I don't get a picture." I asked (one last time - louder and with a cussword or two). What was so cool? He finally answered my question - "Dad, you shot your phone right off the bag." I stood up, looked out in front of the bench and saw part of my phone lying in the dirt about 15 feet out. The other big part was lying right in front of the bench and smaller parts were spread out in between.

Oh well, my wife wanted a new phone so I got her a new one and took over her's.

Lesson(s) learned.
