New N-PAP AK

Hey guys, here is my new N-PAP AK47 rifle. It actually came with polycarbonate handguard but I installed a railed handguard. The original handguard was extremely difficult to remove. I also attached a Magpul AFG and Troy railguards. Other than those mods, I will keep it as it is.

Any issues with a canted front sight? How does that afg feel on it? Looks like a sweet shooter!

No canted sight issues. In fact, I already mechanically sighted it in as the front sight post was adjusted to the right. Fortunately I bought a AK/SKS sight tool. The AFG feels awesome on it. It honestly feels natural and very ergonomic. The charging is still a little rough but I've read that it gets easier the more you use it. Its my first AK.

Nice AK. Don't be shy with the lube until it gets broken in.

Dumb as it sounds, I am still having trouble getting the irons zeroed on my reassembled MAK (using the tool, ofc). Height is off on the front, and the rear is a little too coarse to compensate.

I replaced the original sight post with an aftermarket unit (Tapco). After installing the new sight post, and adjusting with the sight tool, the rifle shot much better.

I'll check it out. With the red dot, I don't plan on shooting irons, but IMO they ought to be functional as long as they're installed on the gun.

Speaking of red dots, this is the first time I've ever used one. Are these things accurate past 50 yards or so? With a 2-4 MOA dot, seems to me that aiming to 100 yards is a crapshoot, no? Being used to telescopic sights, this thing is throwing me.

Well, typing out of my rear right now (know nothing about these fancy-schmancy battery powered optics), I'm presuming this AK is avg when it comes to accuracy (about 3 MOA at 100 meters - the 1,2, and 3 on the rear sight represents 100's of meters rather than yards). So, given error is additive and presuming the dot is 3 MOA, we're taking a spread of about 6 MOA at 100 meters (or if you're using 1/2 of the smallest unit of measure for error analysis (1/2 of the dot size), a total of 4 1/2 MOA because the precision of the rifle is 3 MOA). They're designed for battle accuracy, so you're prolly not going to get a tack driver at 100 meters.

Overall, I'm not sure I could see the center ring at 100 meters without magnification, so it prolly wouldn't practically matter in my particular case.

Anyyway, for the engineering and real scientifical types, time to beat me up about the presumptions, math, and methods! W00t!

What is your definition of accurate? Are you looking to hit bullseyes or man sized targets?

A red dot can work out to that range effectively if you're looking for battle accuracy and hitting man sized targets. 2 MOA dot would be better, but in either case it is really more of familiarity with your gun and ammo and then practice.
