deep cover gun
deep cover gun
I have been looking around for a while for a deep cover/BackUp gun. I can not always carry my larger guns especially in the summer. I been looking at the Ruger LCP and if I ever find one I will buy it. Does anyone have a LCP or what do you think of it. What do you use for a deep cover gun?
Re: deep cover gun
Well I know there was a recall. Mine is a S&W 649. I have carried this from here to the Gulf coast and to Alaska and back. Only 5 shots, but they are enough. I always said they needed to make the 49 in stainless and when they did ca. 1984, I got one.

Re: deep cover gun
You might also find this one lurking around if you look hard enough.

Re: deep cover gun
Is that a .22 Mag Derringer I see? We had one of those around the house when I was growing up. I always wondered as a kid "What good is two shots gonna do me?". But I guess it would do alright as a back or in a pinch when it's the only thing you can get to.
Re: deep cover gun
Just a 22-- stroked with Stingers--- Last resort for sure, but it can be a nasty little surprise- when it isn't expected.

Re: deep cover gun
I sometimes carry a derringer in .45 Colt/.410 2.5" using a Gould & Goodrich pocket holster as a BUG.

My Kahr PM9 is as small as I want to go. But it is completely hidden under a t-shirt.
Re: deep cover gun
I think the LCP would be a good choice. I myself would go with a Kahr PM9.
Re: deep cover gun
I now own the LCP. It is a great gun. Very light weight and with a pocket holster it is perfect. I am very happy with it however it is a handfull. So far it has exceeded my expectations.

Re: deep cover gun
I've always used various S&W J frames. Though I do have a Bond Derringer in .45 Colt/.410 2.5" and an American Derringer Corporation 9mm. I don't consider them quite as useful. I don't trust very small autos, though I eventually had a Kel Tec P32 that worked well enough with FMJ for a time. Currently my only "pocket" auto is a German made Walther PP in .32.

me want lol. I'm considering one of these as a "pocket get off me type deal"Gatorfarmer wrote: I do have a Bond Derringer in .45 Colt/.410 2.5" .

My daily CCW is a Kahr PM9094NA, great gun and very accurate for its size.

I use a P3AT in a pocket Holster as my "Deep Cover" or Back up Gun. Primary Gun is a S&W 3913.
Re: deep cover gun
I picked up an LCP last week. So far its been great but due to the scarsity of ammo, I have yet to fire many rounds. I dont feel its a handful so I guess that is a judgement call.

Re: deep cover gun
Currently i am CC'ing a Taurus PT-145...nice size that covers up easy, good stopping power with a .45, easy to shoot & great sights...not the most accurate gun past 25 yards, but not designed to be...and no one is going to run at you with a .45 going off pointed towards them....
GOOD LUCK!
GOOD LUCK!

Re: deep cover gun
I have only had my LCP for a couple of months but I'm very happy with it so far. Ammo is still hard to come by but it fits into my pocket and out of sight perfectly. I have a snubnose and they arent in the same ballpark for concealment as far as I am concerned. I have owned the Keltec .380 as well. It too is a good pocket pistol but I had to add a trigger shoe and do some filing before it was as comfortable to shoot as my LCP.
