Re: New Virginia Gun Laws Effective 1 July 2013 [VGOF blog]
Yeah, I need some clarification on one of these:
Senate Bill 1363, patroned by state Senator Jill H. Vogel (R-27), and House Bill 2317, patroned by Delegate Rich Anderson (R-51), are companion bills that provide that residency for members of the Armed Forces shall include both the member’s permanent duty post and the nearby state in which the military personnel resides for the purposes of firearms purchases.
Does this mean that military folks stationed in adjoining states to Virginia can buy handguns IN Virginia now?

But in a really odd twist it seems that military folks (with domicile outside of VA) living in Virginia but stationed in an adjoining state cannot buy guns in Virginia. I find it interesting that, for example, a military member with Texas residency, living in DC and stationed in Virginia can buy a gun in Virginia now but a military member with Texas residency, living in Virginia and officially stationed in DC (like me, even though I actually work in VA), cannot buy a gun in Virginia. My local gun dealer told me I have to buy my guns in DC, so in other words, no guns for me!CoryB wrote:Yeah, I need some clarification on one of these:
