Isiah 11:6-9 seemed appropriate for this, even though 30 years ago we would not have batted an eye.

Never understood school prayer restrictions.

As long as there is exams there will be prayer in school.

Good on him for exercising his freedom of religion, and good on the school district for not taking it out on him or others.

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever.
Amen."

Where is the damage in that? Seriously. It's a blessing, not a curse. You have the First Amendment guarantee of freedom to worship how you see fit,but a group of azzhats who say "OH NO! NOT ON PUBLIC PROPERTY!" The way the amendment was written was to PREVENT the guv'mint from keeping you from praying. Seems the azzhats did just that.

When I have a constitutional question I go to: http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charte ... cript.html
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
You also have state or commonwealth laws that need to be looked at:
http://constitution.legis.virginia.gov/
Section 16. Free exercise of religion; no establishment of religion.

That religion or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and, therefore, all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love, and charity towards each other. No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but all men shall be free to profess and by argument to maintain their opinions in matters of religion, and the same shall in nowise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities. And the General Assembly shall not prescribe any religious test whatever, or confer any peculiar privileges or advantages on any sect or denomination, or pass any law requiring or authorizing any religious society, or the people of any district within this Commonwealth, to levy on themselves or others, any tax for the erection or repair of any house of public worship, or for the support of any church or ministry; but it shall be left free to every person to select his religious instructor, and to make for his support such private contract as he shall please

The red portion of the first amendment is what gets some peoples panties in a twist. Somehow, when a speaker utters the word or words: God, Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah or Our father it somehow causes the Congress to pass a law to establish a national religion.

If you were going to argue it in VA, the red part of Article I, Section 16 is why I think the folks who are going to complain would say they don't have to listen to someone lead a prayer. I would be hard pressed to understand how someone could feel restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, or feel they otherwise suffered on account of his religious opinions or belief. But I can be an insensitive clod about these things.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Those of you agreeing with what he did should take a moment and ask yourself how would you react if the guy was a non-Christian and lead a prayer against the school rules?

As an agnostic my favorite 'prayer' for grace...

Funny,

At our prayer meeting this evening, it was reported that someone on our prayer list (a publication containing the names of persons with prayer needs, generally church members or persons known to church members) had threatened legal action unless they were removed from the list. Reminds me of a story I saw on tv some years ago about Jews being offended by Mormons praying for their dead. Some people just want to be offended, I guess...

Regards,

George

If change is inevitable, why aren't we prepared for it?

It went a little further than that, Mormons were performing necrobaptisms of dead Holocaust victims. It offends little but common sense and tact, but it sufficiently pissed off some I guess.
